Will graduate schools accept only one transcript from the undergraduate school where the degree was obtained? If my undegraduate degree shows that credits were transferred and accepted, will graduate schools still insist that I contact these colleges where the credits came from?

I have attended many schools over the years and it is a real pain to have to request transcripts from all these schools!

Been there, done that. You're right, it is a pain.

They require transcrips from all schools attended because most schools only show the transfer credit that they accepted on their transcripts.

The grad schools want to see the Fs, Ds, and Ws that didn't transfer.

For those of you with substantial credit by examination, have you had to send in separate transcripts for DSST, CLEP, TECEP, and ECE credits?

In addition to that, many (if not most) schools do not show the grades for even those transfer courses that were accepted.

Won't "credit banking" take care of the situation?

From what I have seen, grad. schools want transcripts from each and every institution. I interpret this to mean that credit banking -- or even a consolidated Excelsior/TESC/COSC transcript showing exams -- would not be sufficient.

    Who has tried?

Credit banking turns out to be almost worthless, since all graduate schools I've encountered require transcripts from the original institution.

grad school usually won't require transcripts from CLEP/DANTES because they aren't evaluating that credit, it's been evaluated already.

There are several reasons they want transcripts for all schools attended. As was said, transfers don't always include a grade or the courses you failed. Another reason is that they want to be sure that you don't owe money to a school. You generally can't get a transcript if you owe money.

Also, credit banks and Excelsior et al will allow you to supress courses on your transcripts.

    Just a few thoughts.

    CoachTurner- excellent points.

CLEP and Dantes both allow you to suppress scores, too. So if your Excelsior degree is based (primarily) on credit by examination, is it safe to conclude that there is no real way to get tell if something were suppressed, irrespective to if you have individual transcripts, therefore the Excelsior transcript should be sufficient?

I suppose this doesn't apply to TECEP credits, in which they'd still probably want a transcript from TESC. Arguably, since TESC is an actual school, this would make sense.

CLEP and DANTES exams are evaluated for credit. If you flunk the exam, there is nothing to put on the transcript. Remember that there is no requirement to send CLEP or DANTES transcripts of failed exams to Excelsior or any other school.

A transcript from a traditional B&M school would likewise not list CLEP or DANTES exams unless credit were granted for them.
