Hi Degree Info; I am interested in a couple programs at Penn Foster (I have already earned RA Masters, BA, A/S, and credits towards PhD). However, I still have some areas that I need some work in (accounting, etc.). I guess my questions are: Is Penn Foster "Accredited" Is it reputable (what's its reputation) Is it a good supplement to my RA Degrees (say if I needed some accounting for a promotion...would it be a good "filler.") Do a search on this message board for my previous threat entitled "My studies at Education Direct". It tells about my experience studying with Education Direct/Penn Foster so far. Penn Foster is nationally accredited by the DETC, which is an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. While it is accredited, that accreditation doesn't carry as much weight as a regionally-accredited institution...such as a state university or college. Even though I have not completed my studies with Penn Foster yet, being in the program has alread paid off for me. An employer at a recent job interview was impressed that I am currently studying marketing while working a full-time job. It did not matter to them that it was a nationally-accredited or "online" school. Based on my current studies and my experience, I was offered the job, with a substantial pay increase. Not a bad return on an investment of $35 per month to study with Penn Foster.

I completed a couple semesters at Education Direct, now known as, Penn Foster. Penn Foster was my first experience with distance learning and I liked the classes, format and price. I would have finished my AS with them had I not found this board and been introduced to the wonderful CLEP exam.
Further question...Utility Thanks for the information about Penn Foster. My biggest question, which I mistakenly omitted, is: has anyone had any success landing a job, experienced success when trying to use credentials obtained from Penn Foster? Thanks, Mike
Re: Further question...Utility See my earlier post. For me, the answer is "yes". My Penn Foster education wasn't the deciding factor in my landing a new job, but it certainly did help. The knowledge I have gained from Penn Foster so far will also help me on the job, as I am actually changing careers. I would say that's success.
Penn Foster seems like a neat school for people who are also looking for a new hobby. (Home Repair, Dog Grooming, etc) They list their Auto Repair Technician program at around $700. Thats much cheaper than the local CC. I wonder if the students are required to work on their own cars?
