If there's already a topic on the school I apologize for redundancy, please link me to it and close this thread.

Ashworth college offers Associates degrees online, and charges the least of any school I've found- $60 a credit hour. Now, I'm inclined to think maybe it's too good to be true, but I also know sometimes if you hunt long enough, you find something of great quality very inexpensively, so I am wondering if anyone can shed some light on Ashworth's reputation as a distance learning school?

Caitlan - this has been discussed many times on this Forum, including a few threads in the last month or so.

If you search for "Ashworth", I'm sure you'll get a long list of threads from this Forum - I'd suggest picking out the ones with Ashworth in the title with the most replies and start from there.

Yes, the school has been discussed much. The Cliff Notes version is:

1.) Inexpensive School, probably the least expensive accredited school aside from maybe Penn Foster Career School.

2.) They use independent study methods, i.e. book and paper though you may submit quizzes online. There are generally no deadlines on assignments and you work at your own pace.

3.) There isn't an actual "teacher" per se'. Unlike many online programs, there is no actual teacher assigned to the course. It was developed by an expert in the given field, then it is up to customer support to help you with any questions you may have. Additionally, there is no student to student interaction.

4.) Customer service has traditionally not been all that good, though they have improved, expect long wait times when calling and generally I never received replies to emails except for them to say "please call ______" (fill in the blank).

5.) The course content and books are really good, I cannot complain there.

6.) The final exams are timed and proctored. They are only about 10 questions long per subject, but you take all 5 finals at one time, so you really have to know your stuff.

Upon graduating from there I have found it to be worth my while. If you plan on going beyond an AS degree make sure the college you wish to transfer to will accept their credits. So far the ones I have seen that will are:

    Kaplan University
    University of Phoenix
    Southwestern College
    Northcentral University

...just off the top of my head...
