    Hi all.
I know that philosophicalme has been taking the Excelsior college math course.
I know that she has said it pretty easy but I was wondering if she (and anyone else that has taken the course) could expnd on their experiences with it? I know that she said that it seemed pretty easy and the textbook seemed to be basic.
So was this the web based course or the CD-ROM? Were the exams difficult? How many were there? How many proctored?
How long did you have to complete the course? How many hours a week were spent studying? What was the final grade ?
    Anything else that I missed?
I hate math and need the credit and this one seeems to be the easiest (though not the cheapest.)

Thanks to everyone on this forum. You people are wonderful.

Yep, that's one of the reasons I signed up.

I just entered week two, but so far so good.

    Online

    Not yet (crossing fingers)

Thirteen Quizes, 1 Midterm, 1 Final

    No proctor

    A normal semester, 15 Weeks.

I'm not math phobic, however I wanted to take a good intro course and then move onto more difficult math courses. From what I've seen so far and what I've read from the book this course is going to be very easy. Let me give you a few examples of chapter names to give you an idea of class content.

Measurement, Percent, Ratio and Proportion, Decimals, Adding and Subtracting Fractions.. and so on.. The last/most difficult chapter is an introduction to algebra. I ended High School with Advanced Trig, so I don't think I'll find this to difficult, I don't imagine most would.

    Good Luck.

Thanks for the breakdown of the class and the experience you've had so far. This is exactly what I was looking for.
It looks like the class will fit the bill.
Are you sure that the exams are not proctored?
No matter if they are or not. It looks like material that I can master with some studying.
    Thanks again.

Robert, I was wondering if you could give an update on how the class is going.
I plan on enrolling in the July class.

If any one else is taking this class ( or has taken) I would love to hear their experience.
    Thanks,

    Hi there..

The course is easier than I thought it would be. I'm now in week 11. I've taken the midterm and 9 quizes thus far (I'm behind one right now as you can take them at any time I"ll just get two over next week). I"ve had 100% on everything other than two quizes, which I missed one on each and scored 90% on them (both stupid errors on my part). I'm not unhappy with the course, but had I known it would be this easy I might have considered attempting the CLEP College Math exam a month prior to this course and then only have taken it if I didn't pass the CLEP.

The quizes are untimed, and as I said above you can take them at any time prior to the end of the course. I made sure I had them all done prior to the Mid-Term, and have been doing them every other week or so since.

The Mid-Term was online, unproctored, and timed at 100 minutes for 50 questions.

There's been no real class interaction thus far beyond the initial introductions. I did e-mail the instructor once due to one question being incorrect on a quiz, but haven't had to e-mail her since.

    Fantastic!
    Thanks.
I've been worried about it and I feeel a lot better now.
I've had a lot of success in my online college courses so far and was a bit worried about that needed Math credit.
    Thanks again.

Here is a an alternative to Excelsior Colleg Math Course

    PennFoster; Self-paced Correspondence

Tech Math 1 = 3 credits in Algerbra

6 lesson I.E. work books, and a proctored exam

    1.) Formulas; Very Easy
    2.) Algebra 1; Easy
    3.) Algerbra 2; Moderate
    4.) Algerbra 3; Little Difficult
    5.) Logarithms; Easy
    6.) Metric System; Easy

    Proctored Exam; Moderate

I just took took this class and transfered it to Excelsior. Its a 2 credit hour course with Pennfoster. $55 a credit hour so it will only cost you $110 plus a $20 proctor fee. Its listed in the ACE national guide to college credit under Practical Algerbra (Formerly Tech Math 1) 3 credit hours in Algrerbra. The only down side is this course can't be applied to Engineering majors...

Its a bit tricky to enroll in indivual courses you have to get a hold of the right person at the school.

This is how I'd start call the student service # 1-888-427-1000, when they ask for you student # hit 0 and wait eventually you'll be transfer to a rep.

Tell them your looking to take a college level enrichment class. They should be able to help or at least put you on the right track
