    Dear Students,

Effective March 15, 2006, Barrington University will adopt the name:
    University of Atlanta

The changes made to curriculum, the Virtual Campus, and various student services over the last year have been extraordinary! The decision to change the name of the University reflects our commitment to quality education and overall growth of the institution. We believe (and hope that you will agree) that the University of Atlanta name will bring recognition and distinction to all who carry its seal on their degree.

We understand that you may have several questions regarding this decision and have attempted to provide answers to those which are commonly asked.

    What exactly is changing?
The name is changing. This means that we must change the website and all other University publications to now, proudly display University of Atlanta.

Why is a new name necessary?
The University has put a great deal of effort into enhancing your student experience and providing you with the best education possible. The University of Atlanta name is one that we can all be proud to carry. It is new and fresh; yet, it is instantly recognized. Just as Atlanta was a rebuilt city – so too is University of Atlanta a rebuilt institution; bigger and better than ever before!

How will I reach Administrators and my Faculty Mentor?
Everyone you have grown to know is still here. All emails sent to “barrington.edu†accounts will be redirected to “uofa.edu†in the event you forget to change your address book. The phone number is still the same as well as the fax number and mailing address. We haven’t moved! We are here and ready to assist you when you need us.

How do I get to the Learn Center to complete my courses and access my account?
You will now log in to www.uofa.edu to access the Learn Center but, once you get there, you will see that everything else is the same.

What name will be on my degree? Barrington University or University of Atlanta?
This choice is yours. Of course, we suggest University of Atlanta but, will honor any request to display “Barrington University†on degrees of currently enrolled students. Any student enrolled after March 1, 2006 will earn their degree from University of Atlanta.

Who do I contact if I have further questions about the name change?
You may contact Student Services by:
    Calling - Outside US – (251) 471-9977 or Inside US – 1-800-533-3378
    Emailing – [email protected]
Or submitting a comment on the Website – www.uofa.edu

My favorite part of this website is the FAQ about the GI Bill that says that the "University of Atlanta does not accept the GI Bill at this time", or something similar.

Make no mistake, it's the GI Bill and the Department of Veterans Affairs that does not accept this Degree Mill, not the other way around.

    What a sham.

I'm afraid that this trend of using the names of famous cities will soon be followed by other state-licensed schools and degree mills. This is sad.

Well as I live here (Atlanta) I am actually offended by an school outisde of the city called UofATL, let alone the state. I should note that Atlanta tends to look at AL as... well... less then educated.

I know this isn't exactly a honest appraisal of AL, but its odd they would choose to call themselves UofAtlanta given that

I noticed that Barrington University is also a candidate for accreditation by the DETC. I hope they clean up their act if they hope to gain national accreditation.

Didn't California Coast University also have something of a millish background before gaining DETC accreditation? I honestly don't know, that's why I'm asking. I know CCU was the subject of some kind of Congressional hearing into unaccredited or diploma mill institutions.

I hope the practice of accrediting schools with a questionable past doesn't become commonplace at the DETC.

Barrington is in Mobile, Alabama and is naming itself after a city in Georgia. It lists the USDLA on it's authorization page. The USDLA isn't anything more than a membership organization. At least CCU has always been located in California.

Of course, for a long time CCHS, another DETC school (now Independance University), has been located in Utah. So, maybe I'm over-reacting.

This is a little off topic, but did anyone notice the "graduates" on the website are the same "graduates" being used on the Ashworth and Andrew Jackson website?
Why cant these schools find real graduates to put on their website?

CCU was never near the pitiful sad state of Barrington University.

Anyone remember Columbia State University? This huge degree mill bypassed scrutiny from HR departments because their name sounded so real and prestigious. I'm thinking Barrington is trying to do the same thing here.
The University of Atlanta? to be the name for a millish virtual corporation in Alabama? my a** :p

Not to mention the URL is so exceptionally generic (to minimise chances it is recognisable as being less than wonderful?)

UofA? That must be the University of Adelaide. Or is it the University of Aberdeen? I know, it must be the University of Alaska, although it could be the University of Alberta. It could even be the University of Aukland (and who knows how many I have missed).

Perhaps they should have renamed it to the "College of Education" instead. CofE.edu? That must be good school, providing a good Christian education in association with the Church of England.

Can that be considered a mill? California has loads of ligit state approved schools..

The University of Atlanta is licensed by the state of Alabama, ROFLLLLL!! RED FLAG
