Masters W/O enterance exam

Are there any schools that do this? My wife is a class or two away from her BS (TESC) and she wants to get into a RA Masters program.
She would like to do it w/o having to take the GRE or other tests to get in?

Any ideas?

I can relate to your wife's situation and I am glad to say that there are many graduate programs that do not require an entrance exam.

The two from which I have experience that don't require entrance exams are Florida Tech and NCU.

The key is for your wife to narrow down what she wants to get her degree in, figure out which universities offer the degree in the format she wants (DL, B&M, or a combination of both), then look into each university's entrance requirements. Sometimes you'll find universities require an entrance exam for some programs while they do not for others.

A good place to start looking for a DL RA university is the DANTES External Degree Catalog (DEDC).

 

There are many master's programs that do not require the GRE for entry. Though there are likely to be some exceptions in both directions, usually the ones that do not require the GRE are the smaller master's only graduate programs while those graduate programs offering both the master's and doctorate will probably tend to ask for the GRE. By the way, if you tell us what your wife's grad school major is going to be, perhaps we can put up some recommendations for some distance learning grad schools that offer the program she wants and you can sort through those to find a "no GRE required" program.

 

She is finishing a degree in International Business.

Something along those lines I believe would do it. She said she wanted to get te Grad degree in something different.

She could have already gotten a Bachelors in Business Management, but she opted for the International Business road.

It is good to know there are some schools that don't require the test though.

I believe she is looking for a B&M/RA school with a DL program.

Bricks and mortar with distance learning. Business-related but maybe not international business. Regionally accredited. No GRE or GMAT. This sounds like my beloved alma mater City University www.cityu.edu .

It looks like a program set up by a group of CT schools.

 

It is a program set up by a group of CT schools.....THAT OFFER DISTANCE DEGREE PROGRAMS. I included it because I thought you might find something there that suited you. If so, I'd feel like I was doing my part to bring a little revenue into my home-state.

I also included Baker College because I'm a student there.

 

I took some classes at Charter Oak State College, did that help out with the $$ for CT!!

She is taking classes at Baker as well. The degree porgram she is fininshing up at TESC did not have all the classes required for the International Business Degree.

Baker is no walk in the park as far as DL goes. She works her "you know what" off in that school...

Easy it is not!

So what would a degree from the Consortium say. From what school would it be from? UCONN?

Recruiting - yes, there are programs that accept students without a GRE or GMAT. Frequently, the subject of the GRE or GMAT come up in this forum. Some prospective students seem to really be afraid of these tests.

I can't quite figure it out - I'd encourage your wife to take the GMAT and see how she does. Having completed the exam she'll have many more choices to consider - and she has nothing to lose.

Yes, the GMAT/GRE cost a few dollars and take a little time. But by not taking these, you've cut yourself out of some of the best graduate programs in the country.

PhD2B: To tell you the truth she was considering the Masters program from George Washington University. But she mentioned the test under her breath. I figured I would see what other opportinities were out there for her had she decided to not take the test.

She has been an A student at every college she attended. From her first Degree at a B&M university to the DL programs she is in now at Thomas Edison.

I don't know what she's is afraid of? She has the gray matter for the tests....?

 

It’s interesting that you mention GWU. GWU started offering a DSc cohort program near where I live last summer. I looked into it and found that for this particular doctoral program, they were not going to require the GRE. If they weren’t charging $900+ per semester hour, I would have applied to their program. To date I have been admitted to two doctoral programs, neither of which required the GRE.

People always recommend taking the GRE regardless of how you think you will do. Some, like me, are downright afraid to take the test. I think my fear comes from when I took the SAT back in high school. Despite the fact I did poorly on the SAT, it didn’t stop me from earning a BS and later an MS. Perhaps your wife should take the test. If she does well, then some doors may open. If she does poorly, she has you to do the legwork into finding her a graduate program that doesn’t require the GRE.

I recommend that you purchase a copy of "The GRE Test for Dummies" by Suzee Vlk for your wife. My guess is that once she reads it she will want to take the exam or at least not dred it. I used the book to prepare and the author's humor put me at ease. Plus it takes away much of the mystery of how the test works, which reduces anxiety. It costs around $10 and is the best GRE guide, in my opinion. The GRE is really no big deal, and there's no good reason not to take it...in my opinion.

 

I'm dodging the test!!!

I have managed to dodge all entrance exam tests. I can make A's in all my classes; however, I cannot take a standardized test to save my life. This has hindered my efforts into law school and it is now an issue with my officer's package in the Navy. Yes, there is a test involved.

This is probably not the issue in your wife's case. It is one of those things that I have against it.

It just may be but she'll never say, lol..

She too is an A student, but testing scares her I think.
