    Hello,

I'm interested in two programs a Nova Southeastern and would appreciate learning about experiences with either of the programs specifically or the school in general.

    Thanks much,
    Tricia

    Hi Tricia,

I have a friend who just completed her Ed.D. with concentration in Instructional Technology from Nova and she was very pleased with the program. She liked the fact that she could start working on her dissertation early in the program and did not have to wait to complete her coursework before starting. Her cohort was in the Baltimore/Washington area and I know that she had a very positive experience.

Best wishes in your continued studies.

    Mary

    Hi,

I am currently in my third semester in the ITDE program at Nova Southeastern. So far, I have had good experiences.

Don't go by the info at the www.schoolofed.nova.edu/itde site- that is for the "old" program. You would be accepted into the "new" program- info at www.schoolofed.nova.edu/doctoral. The links may not be updated.

Tuition- $594/credit- all classes except dissertation seminars are 3 credits- dissertation seminars are 2, 5, 5 credits respectively.

Dissertation- broken down into 3 seminars- I have heard that the most important factor is who your advisor is- mine is wonderful, but I have heard a few stories about ones who were not too great (then you have to request a new advisor). If you enter the three year program, you must have one dissertation seminar per year completed. I just got my first one done and approved about a month ago- it is not easy, but it can be done with some work.

Classes- so far, the classes have been good. I have found that with working full time and having a family, I can still take between 6-9 credits per semester and do well. The workload is good- enough to understand the material, but not overwhelming.

Travel- the program requires that you attend 2 items in Florida- a 2 day orientation in Davie/North Miami Beach and a 5 day conference at Disney. I scheduled them last summer to do both in one trip. The orientation was good, the conference was a waste of time. Basically, as long as you check into the conference and then attend your face to face classes the rest of the week, no one cares whether you actually attend the conference (which was overcrowded and poorly planned last year).

Program reputation- Everyone has their own opinion, but one of the professors in the program, Dr. Simonson is fairly well respected in the field and, in my opinion, lends a degree of that respect to the program's reputation.

You may want to email Dr. Lina Parra ([email protected]) for more information on the program, she is the enrollment counselor for the ITDE program and was very helpful when I began at NSU.

Please feel free to ask any other questions I may be able to help with. Good luck in your decision!

    Hi, Mary and Angie,

Thank you so much for your replies. That's exactly the type of insider information I was hoping to get.
