I've recently applied to some universities for a PhD programme but keep being asked to supply transcripts related to my previous degrees. I live in the UK and I don't know if UK universities now supply transcripts to students, but when I was a student (some 10 years ago) all we got was a degree certificate. If someone wanted to verify that you had a particular degree, they would contact the university to do this. It was never too important what courses you had taken towards your degree. So, the problem is this: I don't have any transcripts showing the courses/grades that I took (although I have an overall grade for the degree), and one of my degrees was a pure research degree anyway. How do I get around this problem when applying to, say, UNISA? I can obviously prove that I have the degrees I say I have, I just can't provide the extra information I presume these universities want. After all, they're not likely to take my word for it Paul
UK universities will provide a transcript (for a fee). For example, at UCL you can get transcripts from the examinations office (http://www.ucl.ac.uk/Registry/Exams_Regs/exams.htm). They even say they will provide a transcript for a research student (though what the transcript will say I don't know).
