The recent post asking about non-accredited PhD's got me thinking on the subject (especially since I live in CA). It occurred to me that, believe it or not, there is such a thing as a respected (at least within the confines of a profession) non-accredited PhD. Out here there are a number of well-respected, even famous, psychoanalytic institutes. Several of them offer a PhD or PsyD in psychoanalytic studies. These are CA approved degrees and I don't -think- they even qualify holders for licensure (it may even be that one has to be licensed as a psychotherapist to enter the programs). The programs are well-respected (at least among psychodynamically oriented therapists). -- GME
