A friend of mine dropped by with the catalog she received from California Pacific University, eagar to enroll in their DBA program.

I looked at the website and do not see any mention of accrediation. the catalog does state that the "university is approved by the california council for private postsecondary and vocational edcuation to grant degrees in california".

The courses descriptions in the catalog seem vague at best and the $5, 000 plus price tag seems a bit off.

Any opinions on this school ? My friend has a special invitation to start classes in March.

Is this the California Pacific University that was ordered to cease operations? This webpage made me laugh. Quote ---> "Some folks think they can get around this by claiming they were defrauded when their phony degree was sold to them, they think they can hide behind a stupidity defense, not so!!!" http://www.cpu.edu/fraud_alert.htm

CPU is not regionally or nationally accredited.

What degree(s) has your friend earned? If your friend has a masters degree, then she may apply credits towards a distance learning DBA program. If your friend has no masters degree, and it is more cost effective to do so, then she may complete a limited amount of california unaccredited graduate level courses (www.scups.edu) and transfer them to NCU( www.ncu.edu ). NCU may accept california state approved courses in transfer to their DBA program, possibly as an ABD. However, you will have to complete 3 courses at NCU and dissertation requirements.

Your friend may be interested in doctoral programs from DETC accredited universities and colleges. I believe those doctorates will be available in the near future. I am not certain. If you want call DETC for more info regarding the proposed doctoral degrees or ask the many resourceful DL members at degreeinfo.

If your friend is a resident of california, is she close to an regionally accredited university that offers a DBA program? It may be cheaper than attending a distance learning university.

In my biased conclusion. I don't recommend CPU. There are better options out there and your friend could dedicate her CPU resources and enroll at a on-campus or distance learning RA or NA accredited school. Money well spent and she'll be glad for it. I wish her the best. take care.

It is a State Approved institution without any Accreditation.

It is a legitimate school, not a place where you send in payment and issued a degree.

I think the $5,000 figure was for their master’s program. Not sure of the doctorate.

I believe a couple of people went there for their DBA. Maybe they will show up and give their experience with the program.

    - Thats obvious, they are state approved by the great state of california. If CPU wants to stay in business, they should stick to the pay, earn, issue model. ;) My wife and I may move to San Diego in the near future. I may drop by and check out their ops.
