A usually very reliable source today me today that he was quite sure that he read a week or two ago in a newspaper that Orion had been turned down by DETC. Since DETC does not announce turn-downs, but leaves it up to the school to say something or not as they wish, we would presumably know only if Orion said something (or the state of Louisiana did). Something to look into.
I heard a rumor to this effect a few weeks ago, but can't remember from whom, or under what circumstances (I suppose it might have been here). Peace, ------------------ Tom Head www.tomhead.net
The answer to my question, from Orion president Evans Spiceland, is thorough and quite up front. It also provides useful information on what is going on in Louisiana now. --------------------------------- Thanks for your inquiry concerning Orion College. As you are well aware the Louisiana Board of Regents requires all post-secondary schools to be accredited or be in the process of accreditation with an agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. In the Fall of last year,Mike Lambert appeared before the Board of Regents on our behalf. We were granted our acceptance from the Board a short while after. This acceptance/licensure was granted with the provision that we actively seek and receive accreditation. We made formal application to D.E.T.C. in June of this year and will receive a pre-visit in December with a followup visit in March. We continue to work directly with Dr. John Kay at the Board of Regents and with D.E.T.C. in our pursuit of formal recognition. Although D.E.T.C. has no status of "Applicant" we are considered as having applied and have received our milestone dates in accordance with the Accrediting Commissions guidance. Hopefully this answers your question. ------------------------------------
