    Hi all,
I am looking for an online, inexpensive M.Div or M.Th. I have the call but not the resources. I have seen some "Free" or Reg Fee based ones using a search. I have also seen some discussion concerning a couple of these schools. Please, throw any information you may have at me so I can make a more informed decision. If I am going to do the work, I want it to be for a quality institution.

PS I consider myself non-denominational Christian. I have fairly concervative beliefs, but believe that sometimes, "religion" gets in the way.

    Thanks

    Greetings!

What was your undergraduate major? Most MTh programs will require an undergraduate background in theology.

    followup

My undergraduate is BA in English and BS in Business Admin. I guess I was more considering the M.Div. maybe going for the M.Th later.

I have seen Trinity School of Apologetics & Theology. The curriculum seems interesting. Anyone know anything about it?

    Hi Paul,

One of the better accredited as well as cost effective programs is that of South African Theological Seminary. Their BTh program includes advanced standing for previous theologically related studies, although there apparently is the possibility, at least, of direct entrance into the MTh program. It notes on their site,

There may be other options of interest at the Baker's Guide web site, particularly the section of international programs. South African programs tend to be the least expensive of those listed, and the SATS program is one that may be particularly suited to what appears to be your own theological stream.

    Peace,

    Matt

    Ends??

Just wondering a bit more .....

You mention call...... to pastoral ministry? Academics? Missions??

The program you pursue will (naturally) be influenced by money, but also where you are headed.

As mentioned, South African Theological Seminary would be an excellent option.

Also consider the U - London - Bachelor of Divinity.

Both programs are doable for about $3-5000, and are highly credible.

No solid, reputable program is going to be cheap.

Remember the old addage: you get what you pay for.

If you plan to seek denominational ordination eventually, you had better check and see what kind of training they will accept (many only accept ATS training).

If you remain 'independent,' you might just consider the London-BD, or the BTH / MTH at SATS.

I am familiar with Calvin / Trinity theological in India.

If you're staying in the US, I would encourage you to consider other programs first.

The other thing worth considering is that if you will be working overseas, you could do a BTh/MDiv/BD from an accredited seminary in the country in which you're working. Trinity in India is neither accredited nor recognized, but there are many seminaries in India (and elsewhere throughout Asia) which are accredited by the Asian Theological Association (ATA) , whose degrees are recognized by ATS schools in the US as fully legitimate. Some of these have distance education programs, though all require week-long residential seminars.

    Peace,

    Matt

I have a friend who is a Baptist minister. He is preparing to enrol in a Master of Divinity from Liberty University. He said they are Baptist and that the price isn't all that bad. Something like $185 per credit hour. I don't think they have ATS accreditation, but they do have regional. I hope this helps.
