I am considering the UOP MBA here in Oklahoma City. I don't have time for traditional graduate school. I don't mind the cost as I get $7k a yr. from my employer for grad school. I am curious about UOP reputation in the working world. Is it getting better or eroding? I have seen the flame sites but was curious about what the level-headed folks on here seem to think. I like the flex-net format where I go to class the 1st and 6th week, online learning wks. 2-5. If UOP is going downhill, can you recommend another decent online MBA or MS MGT program. Thanks for any feedback.

I cannot speak to the current marketplace reputation, but I can tell you that the UOP MBA instructors are not focusing on a single subject area, and then requiring you to write papers about the single discipline in isolation. UOP is moving towards an integrated learning process, where all MBA disciplines are used to focus on problem solving. This is the real world! I have long advocated this approach, and was glad to see that its time has come..

National University is a good alternative to UOP (some would say a better alternative). It has an online MBA program and I believe the classes are four weeks long.

University of Phoenix gets frequent air time around here. There are many who would complain about UOP. Some complain about their aggressive marketing. Others complain about their high prices. Yet others complain about their group projects. Still others complain about their open admissions policy. But, all in all, they are a good working adult university with online and night school programs and they are regionally accredited by the North Central Association. And certain august former Senior Members have mentioned research showing that many employers actually prefer online and/or night school degrees because it shows more initiative to work one's way through school than it does to be a man of leisure for four years at Mommy & Daddy's expense while in school.

UoP is a good school with good quality course work but they do have a reputation that would be hard to overcome.

There are a lot of schools that have a cheaper price and better rep for example -

If you are worried about reputation, why not just cruise down to OU's downtown campus (http://price.ou.edu/partmba/index.asp) or up to Edmond (http://www.busn.ucok./mba/) a couple of nights a week?

    Rick,

You may want to look further into UOP with regard to tuition. From what I understand, you take a course every 5 weeks with a cohort. Each course is at least $2k. This would put you way over the top of what your employer would pay for tuition reimbursement. Just do your research carefully and do not allow them to pressure you into anything.

    Good luck!

Yeah, goodness, go with Oklahoma State or the University of Oklahoma campus in OKC.

    Hi,

The courses are 6 weeks long for graduate, and group work is required. They use a problem based approach that students seem to enjoy quite a bit and find very applicable to their work place.

I am a graduate of their BSB/M program and worked there as a counselor for a year. They offer solid academics with some very good instructors, but the organization and rotating door of employees (enrollment espeically) is a huge problem, at least at the campus I went to.

On-ground grad courses run about $1500 per course, but the cost of tuition is based on the cost of living, so it may be cheaper in Oklahoma than in Northern VA/DC area. Online is considerably more expensive though.

As other's have said, there are cheaper options, I wish you luck!

Since you are an Oklahoma resident, I would go with Oklahoma State University's online MBA program:

    http://spears.okstate.edu/mba/content/enrollment_options.php

Since you are an in-state student, the tuition would be only $10,708 for the whole program. I'm sure that is far cheaper than UoP.

The other benefit of going with the OSU program is that the name of the college is well-respected and admired in Oklahoma. I'm not sure you could say the same for UoP.

Yeah, nothin wrong with UoP's instruction or faculty, but their reputation just isn't the same as Ok State. I think Ok State's MBA program occasionally creeps into the top rankings of USN. As it would be cheaperthan UoP (less than half), I can't imagine that isn't a great deal for you. Also look into that Oklahoma program out of OKC.

Either way, OU or OSU, you can't go wrong if you want a well-regarded online or low residency MBA.

There are many quality online MBA programs out there( I know I am currently in one)! There are excellent programs that are MUCH cheaper than UOP and will not get the same criticism! As I tell anyone looking for an MBA program check out Johnnies site, he has quite the comprehensive list:

One thing I forgot to mention about the OSU program is that it is also AACSB accredited, if that is important to you.

I have looked at the OSU MBA program quite a bit because I am interested in taking it myself someday.
