Hi All: Currently in the midst of a two day massive blizzard and with all the extra "shut-in" time on my hands I've been thinking...not always a good thing! I wanted to pose a question to the board on doctoral studies via summer school and DL combo. The main university in my area, Memorial University of Newfoundland, has a Ph.D program BUT you have to take a year off work to complete the 2 required courses - this ain't an option for moi at this stage in the game. What would be perfect would be a program that would allow me to attend school in the summer (I am a school administrator with seven weeks off each summer) and the rest of the courses/dissertation writing via DL format. I LOVE DL learning and being very self-motivated is my preferred way to study. So...if anyone can help me out with suggestions on universities that offer this format (International, US or Canadian) please let me know. Thanks! Ian PS - Just received word that an article I wrote has been accepted for a refereed journal - the rest of my publications have been in non-refereed publications. The journal is called The CAHPERD Journal (Canadian Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance) and is published quarterly. http://www.cahperd.ca

Someone also posted a new DE EdD offered by Penn State, but I believe that program was well over 6 figures, and I don't have any info on it. I hope all this helps.
Now why would a non-profit university charge over 6 figures for a degree? Oh, maybe to make a profit.
Penn GSE HEM EdD It's an Ed.D. in Higher Education Management from the University of Pennsylvania. http://gse.upenn.edu/hem Residencies are an initial week in the first summer and one weekend a month, all in Philadelphia, which may not be particularly convenient for a Newfoundlander. Tuition is about $100,000, and there are essentially no fellowship opportunities. It's clearly designed for executives who have someone else picking up the tab. -=Steve=-
