The Bears' Guide to the Best Education Degrees by Distance Learning is now available from the Amazon (Http://www.amazon.com) at a cost less than USD12. I have ordered a copy and am now waiting anxiously for its arrival.

And we thank you for the purchase! Of course with all things of this nature, we have already come up with half a dozen new or missed programs. We'll be putting all that info on the degree.net website shortly.

The most exciting of which is what appears to be the first-ever regionally-accredited school offering 100% of the work toward teacher certification, available to students anywhere in the world. According to tomorrow's Chronicle of Higher Education (Aug 17):
    ----------------------------------
At the end of August, Rio Salado College, in Arizona, will begin offering an online-based teacher-certification program for those who want to teach kindergarten through high school. The program's organizers hope to help ease a national shortage of teachers. Officials at Rio Salado, a campus of the Maricopa County Community College District, believe that theirs will be the first online teacher-certification program in the country. Kathleen Lyons, a spokeswoman for the National Education Association, says she has not heard of any other such program.
    ----------------------------
The even-better news is that they say that because of reciprocity agreements, the Arizona credential will work in 19 other states.

Just received the book today, and have already perused it. Excellent resource material! John, Mariah, Tom and Thomas are to be commended for this fine volume on distance learning.

*** One thing I noticed John--the bear on the front cover appears to be graying just a little on top. With all the global traveling you have been doing recently this can't be old age! [IMG]

Thank you for the endorsement! As with any book of this nature, there are already new programs not in there such as:

    1. the Rio Salado on-line credential program
    2. CalStateTeach now offers a BA in Liberal Studies (suitable for people who wish to teach elementary school.

We are hopeful for a second edition. I think education is one of those fields within distance learning that is really going to take off within the next couple of years.

My copy of the Bears' Guide to the Best Education Degrees by Distance Learning has arrived my home two days ago and I have gone through the whole book quickly. I found the guide provides a comprehensive list of accredited universities which offer education degrees at all levels. In addition, it also provides lots information on registration as a teacher in different states in the USA. Its' very useful to those who intend to become a teacher, no matter at the kindergarten, primary, secondary, or tertiary level. I would like to recommend the book to anyone who wants to earn an accredited distance learning education degree without reservation.

Does anyone have a web link to the Rio Salado online teaching credential program?

Try as I may...I cannot locate information from their home page.

    Thanks in advance,

PS...Two semesters completed with Touro's MBA program. Love it!

Russell notices: One thing I noticed John--the bear on the front cover appears to be graying just a little on top. With all the global traveling you have been doing recently this can't be old age!

Hmm. Hadn't noticed that before. Perhaps it's some remaining sand from the Gobi Desert. Was very hard to get out.

I think the only differences the four of us had on this book was with the cover. The bear was holding an apple. It was red. It was green. It was gone. It was a blackboard. It was a whiteboard. Etc. Many Ten Speed covers, like all the Bears' Guideses, are done by Cale Burr, an artist, punk musician, and Assemblies of God minister in the Northwest, introduced to us by Josh Walston, and quite a wonderful and often quirky artist. His portfolio is at http://www.caleburr.com/

And there was, of course, my personal favorite: a bear wearing a tutu while eating an apple and riding a unicycle and at the same time singing the Hallelujah Chorus from Handel's Messiah. <grin> I think most teachers feel that way some of the time (at least in terms of the many directions they can be pulled in.

    Kristin,

Any reason why Touro (TUI) is not listed in your site?

    Thanks,
    Eli
