What did you expect? Objective reporting and competent fact-checking? By a journalist?

Well it's nice to know you allow us to remain on your ladder. I'm sure Dave Wilson will be pleased to know someone's reading his weekly column. I didn't even know the Times had a tech section (and I've written for their news section) -- LA and high tech are about as well connected as Miami and snow sports.

Assuming Mr. Wilson's intension are more lofty than his knowledge, he and his publication might be interested in hearing more accurate information. Letters to the editor can be directed to: [email protected].

I haven't lived in Los Angeles for about five years now, but it was my impression that a niche tech industry had developed in the Santa Monica and Burbank areas. most of this is a result of the entertainment industry.

Hey, even the Jamaicans one sported a bobsledding team for the Olympics. [IMG]

Pure idiocy, demonstrating tunnel vision and obvious lack of research.

Besides, the L.A. Times is one of the least important "Times" in the world...

Or, even better, engage the author himself in a dialog. If you follow the link to the article, at the very top, to the right of the dateline, there's a button that says "Talk About It." Click on it and it takes you to a set of LA Times message boards. From the menu on the lefthand side, click on "Dave Wilson Online" or start another thread about your view of distance learning.

For a set of boards that have been available since March, they don't seem to be getting a lot of traffic.
