We'll, I decided to stretch my investment for what I want to be a final degree and personal accomplishment to a terminal degree program. I chose to begin at NCU and I can see that the curriculum is going to be a challenge, but rewarding.

Thanks to all of you who contributed to my knowledge of accreditation and diploma mills etc. This aided me in dropping Breyer State and going into a degree program I can be proud of earning and revealing to others.

I had to share a piece of my email beginning my first course. Looks to be very detailed and in depth.

Congratulations! You are now enrolled in course LS6010B which starts on 2/1/2005. If at any time you withdraw from this course, you will be subject to a $25.00 drop fee. Once this course starts, you will also be responsible for some or all of the tuition (see refund schedule below).

Thanks to all of those that helped me and led me with a understanding heart. especially Uncle Janko. My heart goes out to you for being honest and understanding my situation. this is what a site like this is suppose to be about rather than a lashing out at ones misfortunes and mistakes.

As to those that chose to "cast the first stone" so to speak...well, I will have a RA doctorate when I complete my program, with two degrees I earned from Auburn State, a well known and respected university, so that is all I have to say.

To conclude, be careful on what is said to those who seek knowledgable advise as you never know how you could impact a person or individual's life and goals.

Good luck and may God bless you in a miraculous way in 2006.

    Congratulations!

I followed your program change messages and am hoping for the best for you.

Incidentally, I looked at the NCU website and wasn't able to find a faculty listing, such as vitae information. I'm curious about the caliber of the faculty. Did they make that available to you? Did you talk to faculty or an advisor? Thanks for any info.

Congratulations on your decision. Personally, I never doubted your word on Breyer State University’s DBA program as being rigorous. I believe there are many un-accredited universities that offer solid educations, but I feel that you will see much more utility in an accredited degree [especially RA] in the end.

LS6010B is not the most exciting class in the world, but you will learn a lot of useful information. The best way to make the class interesting is to focus the research you do in the class towards possible dissertation topics. Also, since the class requires doctoral learners to make 20 annotated bibliographies as a last assignment, I suggest completing the annotated bibliographies as you come across sources throughout the semester.

    LS6010B?

    Hi all -

Is LS6010B the first course for all Ph.D. students at NCU? If so, would someone mind sharing the syllabus?

I'd like to get a better idea of what I'm in for as far as graduate work and I won't begin courses until at least March.

    Thanks!

I think it would be a copyright issue to share it on this board - correct me if I am wrong.

    Re: LS6010B?

When I enrolled at NCU, LS6010 was a required course; however, looking at their current program outlines, LS6010 does not appear to be mandatory. If any recent NCU enrollee has a different experience with LS6010 being required, please correct me.

    Allison,

LS6010B is the business version of Information Research Strategies. Since you plan on working on a psychology degree, the Information Research Strategies course for psychology programs is LS6010, but I’m sure that the two versions of the course are very similar. ;)

If you are currently enrolled at NCU and want to get a copy of the syllabus, then email your academic advisor to have him or her email you a copy. Anytime I wanted to get a feel for a particular class before enrolling, I email my academic advisor and request a copy of the syllabus. This is better than asking other students for a copy since your advisor will send you a more current copy.

    Not sure. . .

    Randell???

Seems like it could be, depending, but I have seen others posted on this board which is why I asked.

    Thanks, anyway!

Also, thanks for the thoughts PhD2B on acquiring the syllabus; I'll most definitely do this! I'm not starting for at least a month, though, so I don't think I can do this now. I simply wanted to see one to get a better idea of what I was in for :).

I am writing to give a little update on what I have encountered thus far in the first 2 weeks of enrollment with NCU.

First, I am finding the curriculum and course to be quite challenging and in addition, the course that I am in is one that appears to be a foundation for the entire dissertation and writing style required throughout the program.

As for Breyer State, now that I can compare what I was enrolled in etc., I honestly found the course curriculum with BSU to be more interesting as well as equally rigorous now that I have the access to compare and speak to students etc. in NCU.

Would I still choose NCU over BSU? Yes I would, mainly because of what I understand on accreditation and utility of the degree now. What I can say through experience is this:

Breyer State, in my experienced opinion, is DEFINITELY not a degree mill. Pure and simple. You do have many faculty and they are professional, seek to assist in the courses and have shown to be a good mentor while I was enrolled. You also learn the materials and have alot of coursework and writing to complete.

You can find their faculty on the website they have that illustrates their background and experience.

That is my input on BSU, so you can take it for what it is worth, which to most is nothing.

Back to NCU. I have got to say that I feel I made a good decision for a RA doctorate and that NCU is the best bang for the buck for a DL doctorate program.

CTU is overpriced at 65K plus a laptop they give you. Not a saling feature for me.

UoP has a DM, which I also thought was interesting, but at almost 42K plus books etc. Still a ouch in my pocket.

So NCU has got me. I had no intentions of paying even what I am at NCU, but the faculty etc. there have already shown to be easily available and reachable to assist with questions etc. I am enjoying it thus far.

Thank you to all who have contributed to my past and present posts.

SIMON: The crux of the issue is that an unaccredited university has not gone through an extensive and rigorous review of their infrastructure, course curriculums, faculty, financial standing, online library and other internal systems that is mandated for regionally accredited schools by RA accrediting agencies. This makes for an enormous distinction between unaccredited and RA schools regardless of a student's impressions of the level of rigor of a curriculum at an unaccredited university. It is a totally different "animal" and in no way comparable to the rigor of RA graduate degree course work and content or the breadth and depth of RA dissertations.
