It is often a good idea to do a search here first. I just did so, and found seventeen threads in which Generale is mentioned.

As we report in Bears' Guide, 14th ed., Generale's campus is a mailbox rental store called Mailbox Plus in Vancouver The website is registered to Gary Gandy in Malaysia. The accreditation is claimed from an organization we could never locate.

Canada is easy... public university is legit 100%, private religious is legit most of the time, private non-religous is a mill almost all of the time.

I live in Vancouver BC, and I can tell you it's not a recognized "university" here.

Mr. Lee -- do you have any comments on two of Vancouver's other wonders, Senior University (the companion school, as it were, to Columbia Pacific/Columbia Commonwealth), and Vancouver University Worldwide?

Dr. Bear, remember I emailed you the pictures of Senior University's "campus?"
Especially in Vancouver, I'd never want to be associated with Senior U's "office in a box" by an auto bumper junk yard.

I'm confident that the majority of Vancouverers knows that Senior U and Vancouver University Worldwide are obvious bullshits...(ones that you can smell from a mile away).

We have UBC, SFU, Open Learning, and Athabasca that offer off campus courses. HW MBA exams are held at UBC as well.

    Regards,
Byran, who still has the Senior University pictures in his computer for those who want them.

Indeed, and I treasure them; apologies for forgetting you were the source.

I maintain the hope/wish that a future Bears' Guide can include photographs of some of the 'wonders'** out there. There is nothing like seeing a picture of the Mailboxes Etc. or the "Bad Dog" sign, or just the "university" as a one-room (or less) facility listed on the building directory, to persuade some skeptics.

Is there a way this forum could also have a photo archive? Might Bill Gossett, who has posted some wonderful pictures of perps, be available? What ever happened to that alt.binaries.education.distance (or something close to that) site? And so on.

**I am not referring to Senior U, but to the world of unaccredited schools in general.

Nice complex, Kristin. The University was housed next door to what appeared to be a "Photo" shop, which probably made for real convenience in printing the diplomas. [IMG]

  10. I was invited to visit SUI by their V-P in spring 2000. I paid a visit. SUI's office had a very humble exterior as Bryan Lee describes. The inside was on the second floor, spacious and neat (can't quote the square footage). The V-P, Dr. Hassan, showed me around everywhere, including the student files. I am not sure what student files are supposed to look like so I cannot comment. John Bear told me some time back that he might pay a visit also, perhaps April 2001, but I guess that hasn't happened (by his posing the question).

Bryan - I'm very glad to hear that H-W conducts exams at UBC. I just received my confirmation for two December exams yesterday - unfortunately there were no guarantees made as to where they would be held, but every effort would be made to locate them in Vancouver.

I was telling the manager of ICES (International Credential Evaluation Service) yesterday that I was doing the H-W MBA in Human Resources Management. I commented that she must know of H-W. She responded "Absolutely!". ICES is run by Canada's accredited Open Learning Institute.
It sure feels good to be doing a degree that no one can "fuck" with (mea culpa for the language).

    Hello Earon,

Actually, "humble" is a good word. I just wish that SUI's various accreditations, memberships, affilations..etc, were humble as well, and I pray that the aforementioned are to be of some benefit to the students and graduates as well.

I've contacted the financial times quite sometime ago and the response I've received was quite pathetic. I've sent a few emails to their rep and they did not respond when I ask for the emails of the HW grads and students in Vancouver. If I remember correctly, a few weeks later they simply sent me an email indicating that the exams has been, and are usually held at UBC.

So I found the watercooler site and found some Vancouver HWMBA students. They told me they've been taking their exams at UBC. Hopefully you won't have to travel too far to sit for your exams.

    Good luck to you.

    Regards,
    Byran

    Kristin and Byran,
Pardon my ignorance but what does HW stand for? I know it is a school but what is their full name and if possible their web addr also please.

    Timmy.

  13. HW usually refers to Heriot-Watt.

    Re: SUI
I ran across their website the other day and see that they now list their addresses on the home page thus:

    SUI Wyoming, USA Center:
    12 North Fork Road,
    Ft. Washakie, Wyoming,
    USA 82514

Mailing Address: 1101 Main Street #412,
    Evanston, Wyoming,
    USA 82930
    Tel: 1 800 939 7822 E-mail: [email protected]

SUI Durban, Republic of South Africa:
    40 Moore Road,
    Umbilo, Durban,
    Republic of South Africa

I see no Canada address, and only a couple mentions of Canada.

On the "recognition and accreditation" page: "Senior University International is a Member of the National Association of Career Colleges and the BC Career Colleges Association. Senior University International is currently pursuing national accreditation by the Canadian Education and Training Accreditation Commission." http://www.senioru.edu/suweb/statement.htm

On mission/philosophy page: "Students are welcome to visit the University’s Administrative Offices in Richmond, British Columbia or its Business Office and the Lifelong Learning Center in Evanston, Wyoming, but there is no obligation to do so." http://www.senioru.edu/suweb/Philosophy.htm

  15. Heriot-Watt University, based in Edinburgh, Scotland. Their business graduate program is the Edinburgh Business School. H-W has the Queen's Charter, the highest standing in the UK uni system. H-W is recognized in Canada as an accredited uni. Below is the website, specifically the MBA curriculum outline: http://www.hwmba.edu/prog/curric.htm

  16. In the spring of 2000 I did a physical search of the Generale University mailbox. It was located in a mailbox business on Davie Street, between Burrard and Thurlow streets. I always thought it was a prank, but it might be a serious scam (that's about two hierarchal levels above prank).
