OK, here's the situtation. I'm currently studying for a marketing degree (associates) with Penn Foster Career School (Education Direct). I plan to finish, because I'm determined to get the degree.

However, this will take me at least two years, and right now it's two years I don't have. Situations with my employer have changed and as a result I am going to be experiencing a drop in pay. That is a drop I cannot afford, so I'm going to have to find a new job.

The increase in pay I am seeking will come by changing fields, hopefully to marketing/public relations. There are several openings in my area now, but all require a minimum of a bachelors degree in journalism, public relations, communications or marketing. Without it, I won't be considered.

I have about 80 ACE-evaluated credits in journalism/brodcasting from military training I can transfer. I know about TESC's BA in Journalism and COSC's BA in General Studies with an emphasis in Communications. Are there any that I'm missing? I'm hoping to get a student loan, transfer my military credits into a BA program and test out of the other 40 credits I'll need, or take classes. I'm hoping to accomplish this during 2006. My financial situation makes this necessary.

Any ideas, other than TESC or COSC, or are they my best bet? Is there a faster BA or BS out there?

TCord. I think I may be able to help, but you will need to email me. Check your PM.

Additionally, you didn't specify whether it has to be RA or NA.

    RA would be preferable.

NA will likely be a bit more flexible in regard to the PM I sent. I recommend the following:

    http://www.aju.edu/bac.htm

    And WGU says the following:

    "Don't have an associate's degree?

You don't need to complete an associate's degree before entering a WGU bachelor's program. Any of the bachelor's programs cover general education requirements, which you may or may not already have completed through prior college work. Click on a degree that interests you or speak to an Enrollment Counselor for more details."

    http://www.wgu.edu/business/marketing_bachelor_degree.asp

Perhaps they will allow a tentative admission to the degree...(I'll bet they will) while you complete both. You will be very busy though.

Also WGU is NA and RA correct?

I'm curious if the PM had any content that we could use around here in general?

Please share if it is sharable stuff.

Most of it was stuff alread listed in the post from friendorfoe listed above. (thanks for that, fof. I tried to return a PM, but it says your inbox is full).

Thanks for the extensive lists, Ted. They are a big help.

Due to time and money concerns, I think the early leaders are Andrew Jackson University, COSC and TESC.

I should also mention that if there is a college with liberal transfer policies which offers a BA in General or Independent Studies with a concentration in communications, journalism, public relations or marketing, I would consider those as well.

    Thanks!

Basically it detailed an arrangement I had with a school to complete my AS and BS at the same time, however I don't think the school would duplicate that arrangement again, so I didn't make the name of the school public.

I know that some schools will do so however and when I shopped the concept, I found NA schools to be much more flexible in this regard than RA schools.

TCord...just an FYI, I shopped the idea to TESC at the time and they almost hung up on me. They were very much against the idea, but it wouldn't hurt to try.

Which idea? Studying for the AS and BS at the same time?

I think I might get more mileage out of TESC if I just try to transfer the 80 hours of military credit and the credit I already earned at Penn Foster. I could always try to add additional Penn Foster courses as I go, if they apply.

I have heard COSC is more flexible with tranfer credit, so they are a good possiblity as well.

I'm not sure about AJU's transfer policies, but I'm going to give them a call next week. They seem very reasonably priced, although I'd still rather have an RA bachelors.

Take a look at West Texas A&M and Texas Tech.

Both of these places have GS degrees that takes a variety of credits in transfer.

Also, Fort Hayes has a GS degree that will take alot of credits.

CCU may be an option as well.

I made a nice little find at Fort Hays State University (thanks for the tip, skidadl):

    http://www.fhsu.edu/navy/joroadmap.shtml

It looks like they would use a lot of credit I earned in the Navy. However, TESC and COSC might still give me more credit, and may be a bit more flexible. If anybody has experience with Fort Hays, let me know.

TCord.....TESC wouldn't accept any credits from an NA school AND they wouldn't accept completion of an AS from someone at the same time as working towards a BS at the same time. Of course I was trying to say "hey, I'm finishing this so could you tell me if you would accept the credit once I am done?"....well long story short, they wanted a transcript before even looking into it.....whereas the other school took it in good faith that I would finish my AS and designed the curriculum around that.

TESC is not really all that flexible.

They may give you credit for everything that is at least ACE reviewed but getting them to accept it into a degree program is a whole other issue.

They are pretty rigid with their requirements to finish degrees.

Well, the military credits and the Penn Foster courses are ACE-reviewed, so I know I would get credit for those.

Perhaps I shouldn't overlook Exelsior? I know they also offer a journalism/communications degree. Maybe they are more flexible than TESC?
