    Hello,
I remember reading a post here awhile back from someone who was in her first year of DL law school. She said she realized DL was not for her and needed the classroom experience. She said she had spoke to someone at a local B&M Law school (non-ABA, probably Cal-Bar ) and was told after she successfully passed the Baby Bar she could apply and get credit for the classes she had already taken.
I have searched for the post and can not find it.

    ?????

If you have any information on something like this please let me know.

Hope I've got the right one - not sure - but could you possibly be thinking of http://forums.degreeinfo.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=19597 ? If not, go to the search function, look up nosborne48 and PM him. He's one of the lawyers on the list, a really smart guy, really nice and helpful, too, and he knows a lot about law school accreditation issues, too. Good luck on your law school venture, friom a fellow history major!

Sorry I forgot, but DesElms and little fauss are also very knowledgeable about law schools. They're also nice, intelligent, and helpful guys, too.

By the way, one of the things about private messages (PMs) is that, if it is something that can be said publicly, especially something that might be useful to others, tell them to answer your question on the specific thread (rather than in the back room). Sort of a: "if it can be helpful to others, pass the information, please" sort of thing ... another one of those really, really important things that DesElms taught me when I was a newbie.

    TH,

Yes, but little fauss is a SCALIA supporter and therefore morally inferior!

He hasn't posted in a while; wonder what's up with him?

    Re: transferring credit.

The California Bar has a specific set of study requirements for anyone not graduating from an ABA approved or CalBar accredited law school. Such an applicant must study for four years in an unaccredited school, a correspondence school, a lawyer's offices, or a Judge's chambers.

In order for CalBar to award any credit for law study under these circumstances, the applicant must pass the FYLEX. If he passes the FYLEX the first, second or third time its offered after he completes his first year of study, the applicant receives credit for all law study up to that point. If he passes the FYLEX on the fourth opportunity or later, he receives credit only for the first year of the four year requirement and must study three more years to qualify for the Bar exam.

As I understand it, most unaccredited and D/L California law schools WILL give advanced standing to a successful FYLEX examineee of AT LEAST the first year but they will not give MORE credit than CalBar itself would allow.

I also understand that CalBar accredited schools may, if they wish, grant advanced standing to an applicant who passed the FYLEX either for their first year (if they offer a four year, part time program) or, if they offer a full time three year program, for the three subjects tested on the FYLEX, that is, contracts, criminal law, and torts.

As always, it's up to the school.
