Paid my matriculation fee in mid December. Been waiting to be assigned an academic advisor ever since. All they'll tell me is "soon". How long did all you former students have to wait?

Why did I pay over $1000 for this?

Karen Collies was my advisor, and I don't remember waiting long to correspond with her. But I wasn't worried about it, as I'd already more or less charted my own course and simply took CLEP tests that I was certain would apply until my advisor was available to discuss the rest of my plan.

However, that's not to say you should just sit down and shut up about it. Is your admissions counselor responsive, and if so can you ask them to take your situation more urgently? Mine was Bob Frederick and he was always helpful.

I suppose it doesn't help that you paid right when people start going on vacation. But then, it's mid-January, so I suppose I'd expect people to be cought up by now....

I don't remember how long it took but the customer service is top-notch. I think the intital eval took 4-6 weeks. With the holidays I would expect a bit longer.

Somehow, when I call my admissions counselor he never picks up or calls back. But, he almost always answers my emails the same day I send them. So, I'm fairly satisfied with that. Asked him about what was taking so long, all he said was:

"I don't have an eloquent or adequate answer...until you are
assigned one, I can certainly address any of your questions with a
counselor...getting answers to you until you in fact have an academic counselor."

Just hoping I can apply for graduation in Feb to make the May graduation date!

This time last year I was in your shoes. I submitted all my transcripts, fees, etc. before Christmas '04....and did not receive an advisor assignment until the February 28th. My advisor hasn't really been a lot of help to me since I already knew what I needed to graduate. However she is very responsive to any phone or email questions I have.

I found virtually everything at Charter Oak to every positive. The aforementioned Bob Frederick was very helpful in the initial stages as I was enquiring, with regard to both how much of my Thomas Edison State College AA degree would transfer to COSC, as well as in deciding on a concentration (I had been trying to decide between the straight psych and the "human services" psych). My advisor was assigned only after I had decided on a concentration (though before the concentration proposal was approved). My academic advisor was Josi Zendzian, who went out of her way to be helpful.

    Peace,

    Matt

    Hmmm?

took them about five weeks. I'd give them until feb 1st until getting too perturbed.

Well, I was actually assigned an advisor today. Not sure what took so long, but it's good to be able to get back on track with my degree.
