    Hi folks!
U of London sent me the Offer of Registration into their external LLM program. For a mere 1080 pounds sterling they will enter me on their books and allow me to submit my exam papers to be graded along with those from the highly competitive and prestigeous internal colleges that comprise the University.
Now, however, I am assailed by a doubt...am I wise to start with their LLM? Shouldn't I consider completing a Graduate Route LLB first to learn what is expected of me in the exam process and to acquire a detailed knowledge of English law? I am in no hurry and I really am not sure that my antique JD is sufficient background for their LLM program.
    Comments? Advice?

I don't know how your J.D. would stack up to a University of London LL.B., but if the LL.M. looks like it would be more fun, I'd say you should feel free to go with it.

I looked at the London programs, and of the two I would have gone with the LL.M. for one simple reason: there's less England-specific law, and I'm not British. (Then again, the LL.B. did have those two fun-looking courses in Islamic law and philosophy of law...)

Besides, if you do find yourself wishing you had a more general background in British law, there's nothing saying you can't do an LL.M. and then go back for your LL.B. Some LL.M. students don't even hold an LL.B., and earn the degree for teaching purposes, or to supplement a background in business law.

    Good luck!

    Cheers,
