Recently, the Rutger's Skill Certification thread brought me to a little thought.

If a school, that is RA, can do provide the general public with skill based certifcates, could they expand their offering to entire courses. Rutger's Skill Cert has received a gracious rate of participation for DegreeInfo.Net users for Certificates to this point... imagine the response if they could do an entire skill based degree in this manner. Sort of like doing what "Virginia Virtual University" was supposed to have done. Basically, building a degree from knowledge chunks, testing each chunk of knowledge, banking the knowledge, until the individual has gained the skills/competencies needed for a degree. Then, go ahead and issue the degree.

Granted, COSC, TESC, and Edison already do his with courses, CLEPS, etc, however, wouldn't it be grand for any of them, or some other school, to take this approach for a skills based degree.

I thought that this was basically how Western Governor's University ran their programs, based on a series of knowledge evaluations rather than papers, courses, etc.

I could be wrong, of course.

Their knowledge evaluations include papers and objective exams.

OK, so I *was* wrong. Not that uncommon of an event, actually. :)

    Thanks!

Have any potentials candidates been discovered?

It would seem to be a shame that Rutger's Skills method for testing and certifying (which has been tested by DegreeInfo.com users) has not been emulated on the scale of actually earning a complete degree - even if it was only an Associate's.
