This article (www.west.net/~wwmr/distance.htm) mentions Fathom (www.fathom.com), which is a nascent consortium of Columbia University, London School of Econ. and Political Science, Cambridge Univ. Press, The British Library, The New York Public Library, The University of Chicago, University of Michigan, American Film Institute, RAND, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, The Natural History Museum, Victoria and Albert Museum, and Science Museum.

They barely have more courses than member organsizations at the moment, but they have high aspirations. They offer various for-credit and non-credit undergraduate and graduate courses, varying in cost from free to pricey. They also have various free seminars.

Thanks for the link, Bill. I paid Fathom a visit, and was pleased to discover that their free seminar was on the life and inventions of Edwin Howard Armstrong, a personal hero to those of us with an interest in vintage radio. I've enrolled, 'natch!

    Regards,

    Tony
