    Happy New Year Everyone!
I passed Clep Intro Psychology today evening with a score of 75.I could not beliee my eyes when i saw the score on the screen as i thought i had made quite a few mistakes on the test.I guess luckily all those were pretest questions or something.
I want to take the Clep Educational Psychology next. I am going to use Instacert and Pass your class study guide for this and of course the Official Guide.
I read in one of the posts here that the exam contains a lot of statistics based questions...almost 30.
I don't understand that since there are not many of those types on instancert.
    Please guide me.
I want to take this exam soon as a lot of material overlaps with Intro Psych...
    Thanks as always,
    Adoncia

    Congratulations Adoncia,

    You are doing GREAT!

I haven't taken either of these exams yet, so I cannot advise you. But I just wanted to congratulate you on doing so well.

    Keep it up,

    Hi Adoncia,

I took this test with the Intro to Psych and Human Growth and Development CLEPs and there is A LOT of overlap. I didn't encounter many statistics related questions on the test. There were more questions about Educational Theories and Theories of Learning.

    Congrats:

I'm planning to take the Intro to Psy next week - but i have my doubts about knowing all the subject material.

Adoncia: was the test pretty much spread out on different areas or did it concentrate more on one particular field. This is what I'm scared of.

Good luck on your other CLEPS

well, according to the exam description at
    http://www.collegeboard.com/student/testing/clep/ex_iep.html

there can be, on average, 17 'statistics' questions on the exam

    12% Testing
    Assessment of instructional objectives
    Bias in testing
Classroom assessment (e.g., grading procedures and formative evaluation)
    Descriptive statistics
    Norm- and criterion-referenced tests
    Scaled scores/standard deviation
    Test construction (e.g., classroom tests)
    Test reliability
    Test validity
Use and misuse of assessment techniques

    and

    5% Research Design and Analysis
    Experiments
    Longitudinal research
    Qualitative research/case studies
    Research analysis and statistics
    Surveys

i have this book, the official guide from the College Board,

    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0874477557/qid=1136564561/sr=8-1/ref=pd_bbs_1/102-7065133-9815307?n=507846&s=books&v=glance

which gives sample questions, and the statistics questions are no more difficult than those on the CLEP into psych exam, which i got a 74 on

    the sample stat questions are

a reliable test means that the test is ........

which correlation coefficient has the most predictive value
    -0.70 , 0.60, 0.00, ...

which is most affected by extreme scores
    mean, mode, median

nothing too complicated, I'll be taking the exam at the end of the month, which book did you use for the intro to psych exam?

    thanks

    Thanks Beholdweb,Rhonda and James.
I was planning to take the Educational Psychology exam tommorow and was studying all day today but right now i do not feel confident enough. My test center closes at 12.00 pm on Saturdays and i don't even feel like getting up early to take the exam.
Now i am planning to take both the exams on tues/wedneday next week...meaning EDU Psychology and Human Growth and Development on the same day.
Do you think this is a bad idea?
    Please advice
Thanks Rackwin, and I agree with James, the Intro to Psychology exam is spread out in all areas. It's very straightforward and many of the questions were word to word from the Official Guide and also REA.I am pretty sure you will do well.Good luck.

    James,

I believe the CLEP Ed Psych exam is pass/fail at Excelsior. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

    :p

    DOH!

    You are correct!

A 51 is a good as as 74. Another not to sweat it so much.

As for ataking the ED and LifeSpan on the same day, i'd say that's a very good combo to do together. TON's of overlap.

I did the Biology and the Analyzing Literature on the same day. Perfectly doable. It's just boring and butt tiring sitting down for so long.

Nearing the end of the Analyzing Lit exam, I was sure I had an A already and was VERY tempted just to put down ANYTHING for the remaining questions and NOT even bother to READ them. I knew I had the A. I just wanna get outta here. I had to really force myself to slow down and ACTUALLY DO the questions.

    64,

which I was disappointed with, but I didn't deserve any better. I didn't really put that much effort into it. Gave a reading through

    Biology Made Simple

    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0767915429/qid=1136647911/sr=8-1/ref=pd_bbs_1/102-7065133-9815307?n=507846&s=books&v=glance

but didn't really study the book, just read through it, and if I didn't understand it completely, like DNA replication, or just didn't want to remember all the details, like the Krebs cycle, then I just kept on reading

Bio is pass or fail, so i passed, but personally I guess I would have liked to do better

    Thanks!

    Thanks Beholdweb,James and AGS,
I am so glad to learn that the Edu Psychology is pass/fail at Excelsior, that means i'll just not work too hard for it.
I am psyched out already with all the psychology. I want to take the next 2 exams and then take some business subjects and some general ed subjects like Social Sciences etc.
After the break maybe i'll take a couple more ECE psychology exams.
Also please give me some tips on the Human Growth and Development exam.
I have REA but i read somewhere in this forum that it has a lot of unwanted stuff especially the physiology part.
Do you think i need to but the collegeboard individual test guide or use only REA and Instantcert?
James is that book enough to prepare for Biology?
    Thanks a bunch,
    Adoncia
