I have been informed about the following organisation, and was wondering if anyone had come across it:

    International Accreditation Agency Ltd.
    The Dell, Radlett Lane
    Shenley, Herts
    WD7 9AG, United Kingdom
(Private Limited Company registered in England No. 5273516)

There does not appear to be a web presence. It is a private limited company registered in October 2004 at Companies House.

    Cheers,

    George

Dr Richard Gregson, the founder of the IAA has kindly forwarded me a range of documentation which was tabled at the inaugural meeting in Dubai. Here is a press release:

The inaugural meeting of the newly formed International Accreditation Agency’s Advisory Board took place at the Flora Grand Hotel in Dubai on November 30 – December 1 this year. The 13 member team of the Advisory Board comprised senior representatives of their governments’ national accreditation bodies. The members in attendance represented countries from the continents of Asia, Europe, Africa and America, specifically India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Russia, Poland, Kenya, Zambia and Guyana.

The International Accreditation Agency (IAA) is a company registered in the UK which aims to improve higher education standards worldwide through working alongside national accrediting bodies. The world demand for higher and further education is growing fast; more universities and colleges are required to satisfy that demand; international awareness and programmes are mushrooming as globalisation encompasses education. The IAA has been established to help national bodies and higher education commissions, standardise international standards, project values that recognise national differences in education requirements, provide training programmes to assist institutions raise standards, gain recognition for equivalency of qualifications between countries, and protect students from bogus institutions trying to take advantage of the supply shortages in further and higher education.

The IAA offers three progressive levels of accreditation which are each attained through a process of self-evaluation by the institution itself and an evaluation by inspection carried out by qualified regional inspectors.

As an introduction the IAA is itself sponsoring 5 year full accreditations to selected ‘beacon’ institutions from many countries who satisfy the accreditation criteria. Two areas in the World which have already expressed strong interest in this initiative are Sri Lanka and the Caribbean.

    Dr. Richard Gregson December 2005
    Chief Executive, IAA
