In one reply to your question, one poster mentioned North Arkansas College as having an online technical writing course. They actually used to offer two--Technical English Composition and Technical Report Writing--but when I left the college, so did online technical writing. I developed both online courses and was the only one ever to teach them there. I still occasionally direct online independent studies in technical writing for Northark; that option is incredibly affordable.

However, my new school, Ozarks Technical Community College, offers an online technical writing course each semester. Our Web address is www.otc.edu, and like Northark, our tuition is quite competitive.

Probably the best four-year institution for online technical writing is Texas Tech University (www.ttu.edu) in Lubbock, Texas. TTU even offers online master's and doctoral programs in technical communication and rhetoric. You cannot beat TTU's technical writing faculty, either.

Witt: Thanks for the gentle note of correction; my _Barron's Guide to Distance Learning_ dates from 2002, so maybe it's starting to get a bit long in the tooth.

No problem, Ted. I just happened to have insider knowledge about that one school, so your guide is probably just fine. Thanks for the comprehensive list in any case.
