I was wondering what are the thoughts on getting 6 sigma certified ( green belt ) an IT professional. Nowadays there seems to be a lot of emphasis on process control, so will this help ? Your thought ....
Interesting question. I did Green Belt certification a few years ago while working as a web engineer for a large multinational aerospace company. During the course I recall my colleagues (all from the IT department) commenting that while there are some useful ideas in the GB course, its manufacturing roots were very apparent and a large portion of it would be hard to transfer to the IT sector. However, Six Sigma was and probably remains a selling point, especially though if you make it to Black Belt. Green Belt is rather limited when it comes to job choices (at least that's the case here in Australia).

I've been looking into Six Sigma Certs lately and have run across a few DL programs for certification (White, Green & Black). Six Sigma has been migrating from its manufacturing roots into many other areas and the use of Six Sigma in IT seems to be getting a lot of attention these days. I am considering taking the Cert course(s) offered by Arizona State University and Dr Mikel Harry's Six Sigma Management Institute. Green Belt online training is $895 and Black Belt is $1595.
