I was reading a thread in the off-topic section regarding a certificate in spanish from Penn-Foster. I took spanish for 4 years in high school and would like to take it up again (one of my 5 year goals). Does anyone know of any programs out there besides Penn-Foster? This would be for personal enrichment so I am not worried about getting college credit. Cost is also an issue. I looked real quick through the archives and didn't find much. Maybe DesElms can assist with some of his special google search tips! :)

Take a look at the Cervantes Institute, which has offices in all major cities of the world, and offers certificates by the Spanish Ministry of Education, which would enable you to a number of benefits should you go to Spain in the future (like teaching languages, work forthe government, and the like). I hope it helped.

BTW, the name in Spanish is Instituto Cervantes. You can google it.

By the way if you decide to go to Spain you would have to pay for the fees and cost of living and transport first before you can make a claim for your scholarship which is no guarantee. You end up subsidising the Spanish economy.

Your welcome, having had first hand experience with the education authorities and Cervantes agent here in Asia, I found out is another one of Spain's exports. Might as well learn Spanish in Latin America could be much cheaper.

Cervantes Instite is a non for profit organization, heavily subsidized by the Spanish government. They are not there to make a buck. They are trying to make Spanish culture available to those like the original poster who wish to learn it......

Are you familiar with the word "online"? There is no need to go to Spain to get any of those diplomas. For an American the price they charge is simply ridiculous.
