I was looking at the fees listed for DL at Lampeter and argued one one then another and so now I'm looking for others opinions at to the cost. It seems to me that the total cost of the BA degree in Social Anthropology is £7,320. (For overseas.) But then it says on this page: "* Fixed at this rate per year for the duration of the course, excluding repeat years. Students who pay the second and third years of fees in advance at the same time as the first year's fees will receive a discount of 5% on the total fees paid." Does that mean that the £7,320 is per year? (over $12k) I want to push further on and read that their DL MA was also £7,320. Then it says on that page : "(N.B. The fees quoted are for EACH YEAR of registered study and are subject to an INCREASE every academic year)" Then to push on toward a Phd the cost was... you guessed it: £7,320. But then that page says: "3 years FULL-TIME 3 years fee paying + 2 years 'writing up'= 5 years" I need help understanding what's going on. (I've written Lampeter for further general info.) So what do you think?
... no email reply from Lampeter for additional info. (I know I was being optimistic about a quick turn around reply.) I read a bit more at their website and still am not sure. I'm not sure if it is the wording and/or the per credit example on the site: CREDITS HOME / EU STUDENTS OVERSEAS STUDENTS 10 Credits 98 610 20 Credits 196 1220 30 Credits 294 1830 40 Credits 392 2440 50 Credits 490 3050 60 Credits 588 3660 70 Credits 685 4270 80 Credits 783 4880 90 Credits 881 5490 100 Credits 979 6100 110 Credits 1077 6710 120 Credits 1175 7320 It seems that if they have the per credit(s) cost listed like that and that for 120 credits is the 7320. Then that is for the whole degree. However reading the postgraduate pages kind of throws a wrench into it, maybe.
It is more likely to be per year. The standard academic year in the UK is 120 credits/units (not everyone follows the 30 semester hour standard).
I think this is how it works. English (and Welsh) System: 360 credits for an Honours degree Less for an ordinary degree (I think Open University has 300 credits for an ordinary bachelors) 480 points for an undergraduate masters (really an honours bachelors degree with another year of advanced studies). Scottish system: 360 credits for an ordinary bachelors 480 for an honours degree or a Master of Arts (from some universities). Oxbridge System: 360 credits for an honours degree 480 credits for an undergraduate masters 7 years from matriculation (and an honours degree) for an MA. I am not really sure about Northern Ireland. There are probably several, if not many, exceptions to the above.
