    Good morning!

I saw an advertisement in the Guardian Weekly for an International Professional Doctorate (EdD) by distance learning from the University of Sussex, so I went to http://www.sussex.ac.uk/education/1-2-16-3.html for more information. The program is focused on professionals in education, with opportunities available to those working in health care, social services, non-profits, and similar organizations.

First, the residency requirements are significant, with a four-week summer school to start the program followed by three-week summer sessions in years two and three. It also appears that an additional trip would be required for the oral defense of the doctoral thesis. Second, the minimum registration period is three years with a maximum of six years on the program. Third, the current cost is listed as 5,270 pounds per year for overseas students, and these fees may increase in the future.

In my opinion, Sussex is a well-regarded university, so I thought I would mention it in this forum. Also, a quick search of the archives showed that the program hadn't been mentioned here previously.

It's a good find. There might be some that wouldn't mind using their vacation time for a trip to England. Those who live in the area might find it especially attractive. It would be interesting to see a profile of the students in the program.

(btw, for those in the US, 5,270 British Pounds is just a bit more than $9,000 USD.)

Yes, that's interesting -- maybe a great find for some.

For ten grand per year, however, I think I'll stick with good local options, especially now that I'm in a locality that actually has good options.

I didn't mean it quite like that....

I just realized that by saying that I just dissed Nova Southeastern University, which has an EdD program. I didn't mean to suggest that it's not right for anyone, just that no options in South Florida were right for me (including that one).

It has previously been discussed that the University of Nebraska-Lincoln EdD program admits only a few people per year. I am unaware of the policies of other EdD programs but if admissions slots are rather limited then having another program available is certainly a help for those with such interests.

Indeed, such as Nova Southeastern. :)
