    Hi folks!
I sent in my LLM application to the University of London a couple of months ago and they promptly acknowledged it. They then asked for a law school transcript, which I had sent to them. They then sent me a note that said that my application packet would be forwarded to the "law program committee" for evaluation.

Does anyone on this board have an idea how long "evaluation" normally takes?

I don't know about the LLM program, but I recently applied to an M.Sc. program. From the time I received notice (via e-mail, in response to my enquiry) that my application was complete and would be evaluated, it was about three weeks before I received the "fat envelope" with my acceptance and the registration information.

The External Programme office promptly acknowledged receipt of the fee, and I am now waiting for the first set of course materials.

  3. I was recently accepted into their graduate OB program. Like you I received prompt acknowledgement and assigned a case number. I think it took about 6 weeks before I recieved what U of L calls "the Offer"
to enroll, which is good for 2 years.

I already have one of those (at least for another month or so) and that's MORE than enough. [IMG]

If you don't mind me asking, what are the fees for the OB program (master's), that is another one I am interested in. Thanks

Actually isn't it "Organisational Behaviour"? [IMG] Which leads us to an important UK DL question:

Does one have to use (learn) the Queen's English when writing papers for UK schools?

Heh, I am minutes away from dropping a paper at Fedex across the street for delivery to Australia and am wondering the same thing.

  13. About 3500 pounds sterling - a very good price. The MBA is more expensive at U of L, keeping in sync with the current global view of an MBA as a popular commodity.

  14. You are indeed correct, Bruce. I get a little compulsive when my spell checker keeps refusing to acknowledge the Brit form as correct - so I shifted back to the Americanized version. I suppose that as a Canadian I could be seen as sitting on the fence - since we Canadians tend to err on the Brit side when it comes to the use of English.

This is a helpful site: http://www.scit.wlv.ac.uk/~jphb/american.html
It covers word meanings and spellings rather than grammar differences.

Of course, when speaking of a particular academic or technical discipline, a new crop of differences emerges. I haven't seen a comprehensive list of U.K. education terms, but this S. African/American comparison might be useful; this is one area where satan's mischief must have been involved since SO many terms are at odds: http://www.aihec.com/glossary.htm . Perhaps some kind person from the U.K. will modify this list for U.K. terminology. (By the way, AIHEC does not seem to be very active in marshalling UNISA program(me)s.

I'd like to find a decent guide to grammar differences. (Oxford University are studying this matter; Harvard is, too.)

This question is still unanswered! [IMG] Who has the answer? Where are the non-Queen's English speaking UK DL programme veterans!

From my experience in UoL program, marks would not be deducted from using 'program' and 'behavior' instead of using 'programme' and behaviour'. UK lecturers can read/understand American English.

My experience as an American student in a University of Wales-validated master's program has been the same. During my first couple of essays, I employed Americanized spellings. However, early in this program, I made a "when in Rome..." decision that has resulted in my employing the UK spell check on all of my essays.

My big problem now is that I have become so accustomed to using British spellings that I find myself naturally wanting to use them in my everyday correspondence here in the US.

By the time I finish programs in Australia (GradDiploma) and South Africa (doctorate), I might end up being one very confused anglophone!

But the bottom line question is
    DOES assuming the manifestations
if British English result in better treatment?
As opposed to standing out as just [another Bloody!] American?

    Dear Alex--

What U of L program are you in? I'm planning on applying to their MSc (ext) programme in Environmental Management.

I'd be interested in reading more details of your experience, as they become available.
