    Hey Y'all!

I wanted to post an update on my Fielding Ph.D. experience considering the recent discussion comparing Fielding to another DL university. Thus far it has been a great experience. I have completed coursework in Theories of Personality, Tests and Measures, Biological Bases of behavior, Social Psychology, Research Methodology and a bunch of PALS or Psychological Assessment labs.

So far I ahve found the faculty to be outstanding and they really have stretched my intellectual horizons. The faculty at Fielding really stress that doctoral level professionals make clinical decisions from a heavily theory-based perspective. I just completed the Research Methodology class and rather than it being a rehashing of various experimental designs, instead I explored how psychological research is a culturally based endevour and how it either reifies or attenuates existing social power structures. I have had to critically re-evaluate what I believed about science, the scientific method and how one goes about approaching psychological issues and concerns. The Biological Bases class left my head swimming in neurotransmitters but was very useful. So far I really feel I am getting my money's worth. Next month I go to a week long residency in Santa Barbara where I shall sip Margarita's and read Jung while gazing on the Pacific.

Hi Chris - It's a great update. I'm glad it's working out for you. If you've ever a mind to sip margaritas while gazing at the Atlantic then let me know. I think we've got an East Coast contingent that would give you a warm welcome.

Boilerplate reminder that I'm now inserting into all threads where it's appropriate (and in which I happen to notice it's needed):
    • PLEASE PROVIDE A LINK IN YOUR THREAD-STARTING POSTS TO THE WEB SITE OF THE ENTITY/ENTITIES ABOUT WHICH YOU'RE INQUIRING/COMMENTING SO THAT THOSE WHOSE OPINIONS/COMMENTS YOU SEEK WILL NOT BE BURDENED WITH HAVING TO GOOGLE SAID ENTITY/ENTITIES AND FIND ITS/THEIR WEB SITE(S) THEMSELVES; AND ALSO TO ENSURE THAT THE WEB SITE(S) THEY FIND IS/ARE, IN FACT, THAT/THOSE OF THE ENTITY/ENTITIES ABOUT WHICH YOU'RE INQUIRING/COMMENTING.
I'm not trying to nag on or embarrass, or single-out anyone, mind you... but this business of thread-starting posts which refer in casual, off-handed, familiar ways to institutions -- assuming that everyone is as up-to-speed thereon as the thread-starter -- is starting to get out of hand around here.
