Perusing some recent advertisements I noticed more than a few COMBO deals, in which two, even three, degrees can be earned at once. I guess while one is completing English Composition/Spelling one is also writing the Ph.D. dissertation.

Sample of Ph.D. research proposal pursued via the combo method:

"This here dissertation is gonna try to solve the problem of why teknology ain't (oops, I mean isn't) the answer to the ekonomik ills of Amerika."

Can you provide an example? Which institution(s)? I'm assuming that the institutions aren't USDOE/GAAP recognized...

This was a common practice among the unaccredited DL schools in California during the 70's and 80's. Most of them did it. What was never clear is what the school would do if the candidate failed to progress; was he/she out the entire fee if he/she completed a bachelor's, say, but flunked out of the master's programs, leaving the paid-for but unentered doctoral portion?

It all smacked of degree selling.

No, the schools were not USDOE/GAAP recognized. Some were the CA state approved schools, some were degree mills.
