I recall a jocular post about mobile DL. The July issue of Wireless Business and Technology describes efforts by some companies to produce wireless carrier infrastructure for "M-learning" (mobile learning). This is a post-WAP service based on J2ME (JAVA 2 Micro Edition). The clients would run on beefed-up/veggied-up PDAs and similar wireless devices and would be able to play out the "learning objects" (described below).

The first applications would be for field service, but they anticipate being able to download learning objects, a technology that I happen to be researching now, that would generalize the use of the service. Learning objects are small instructional modules, such as an illustration or a bit of text, that are stored in object form in a database; Instructional Designers select the learning objects, place them in sequence and build larger courses.

We hear arguments on this forum about the mobility of this degree or that, but we now will have truly mobile degrees.

Obviously this would increase the speed / volocity of the learning experience... perhaps it will soon be possible to obtain a RA degree in 2 weeks or less!

When was the last time that you were able to sit down?
