available aside from the usual suspects (NCU, Touro, UoP, Capella, Union) that are from a US institution and RA?

    No specific area of study.

    Thanks.

I trust that someone will correct me if I'm wrong but I believe that there are only two US RA schools (Touro and NCU) that offer Doctoral degrees without any residency requirements. After that you have to go outside the US. If you're willing to go outside the US you really should say something about your area(s) of interest so that people don't waste their time making inappropriate suggestions.

Thanks Jack - I really want to confine myself to the US. I am hoping that someone just might know of a program not on all the "lists" - for example the University of North Texas' PhD in Information Sciences which is, indeed, a completely interdisciplinary PhD that can arguably be completed via distance (but not necessarily part-time).

As a UNT alum, I find this program fascinating and am looking for other, somewhat esoteric, programs that people might be aware of.

OK then. With no specific areas of interest and a sort of maybeyesmaybeno on the residency requirement my best suggestion is that you take yourself off to amazon.com and put in your order for the latest edition of Bears Guide to Non-Traditional Degrees (due out in about 5 minutes). Good luck.

Will do and thanks. I look forward to the updated version.

However, I also want to use this forum to solicit student-feedback for some programs that might be missed in Bears' guide.

I find the user feedback invaluable, such as the prior post where a poster found out that Purdue defined distance as campus-to-campus. That small - but significant - point may be missed in some larger compilations.

Incidentally - residency is really a "no-go" unless it can be delayed as some programs do indicate one can delay residency up to a point.

I still am leaning on not-defining an area of study.. I write that due to the fact that I have found may programs where the topic of study can easily fit into the program. Take for example the exploration of "Leadership". That vague idea can be pressed into degrees ranging from EdD's to PhD's to DBA's and DM's. Specify it down to "America's Unknown Military: The Mercenary Leadership of Contract Operators in Dar Es Salaam" and I argue I can fit that into a business, educational, philosophical or quasi-religious program offered by many universities. Couldn't fit it into a DPharm or SciD, but who knows. It's the exploration of the topic and the resulting research and doctoral support, not necessarily the specific degree or program. So it would seem?

I first found out about RA DL through the popularity of Central Michigan University and its RA DL programs, the MS in Administration being the program of my Air Force colonel. They have 2 doctoral programs, one in audiology and one in health administration. The audiology program is for professional audiologists, but you might find the health admin program to be useful if you have any not-for-profit or public administration ambitions. Health care runs 24 hours a day on a tight budget, and it generalizes to non-health fields more than one might think.
