I am considering the PhD program from Purdue University in Educational Administration. Has anyone heard of this program? Is it a well regarded program? I am currently working on a Masters in Cross cultural teaching through National University and am looking for a good PhD program to follow it. Any other ideas as far as schools go. I am looking for a school that has a good reputation. I am a teacher so summer residencies are acceptable. Money is also not a huge factor but it needs to be a reasonable amount.

    Thanks for the help.

Hi Adam - This program has not really been discussed much around here. Can you provide a link? I imagine that it has gotten no real attention because it isn't a real DL program. Lots of residencies, no? As for other programs, I can certainly understand wanting to be involved in a school that has a good reputation but that is a rather subjective measure. I'd like to think that we never point people toward schools that have bad reputations. Perhaps if you said something further about your goals for the degree it might be easier to make suggestions. In the meantime you could take a look at the programs offered by Nova Southeastern University and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

    Purdue Link

Here is the link to the program.

I have not been able to find information regarding residencies. However, I have emailed the school and am waiting for a response. They have been good about getting back to me so far they have responded the next day.

As far as my goal go I would like to be an administrator at the K-12 level. I know that most principles don't have PhD's but I would one day like to move up to a superintendent position. That is the reason I would like a name attached to my PhD. I have looked at University of Nebraska and it looks like a good program. That is the school I am looking at if Purdue is not possible.

    Residency reguirement

I just recieved an email from Purdue. The program must be completed in Indiana. She wrote me:

"I know this program is only available in Indiana – meaning you have to be here in the state because the program is a ‘distance’ program between two of Purdue campuses."

I would never consider it a distance program if it is simply distant between two campuses in the same general area.

So Purdue is out. I guess I am left with Nebraska. Any other schools you can think of?

Just for the record, Purdue is a Big Ten school, so, of course, it's good.
