Hi, I would like to know how to know more about TESOL Certifications. Is there a national accreditation system in USA for TESOL? I know things like the Cambridge CELTA, DELTA, the Trinity London College examination, the British council, etc.

It seems to have different recognition and accreditation in US and UK. They are many online TESOL courses but are they recognized? In UK, distance learning TESOL courses are accredited by either the College of Teachers and ACTDEC.

Colleges and Universities also conduct TESOL programs. I mean, what is good and what is not? Is there a way to recognize quality TESOL courses?

I would appreciate if anyone could tell me this. Thank you!

I see no one responded to you. Sorry 'bout that. It's a busy time of year... maybe the people most able to help you simply missed your thread. It happens. Don't read anything into it.

As I recall, username "tcnixon" knows a lot about this sort of thing; as does username "3$bill" I believe. Try sending them private messages (PM) and ask them if they wouldn't mind reading this thread and responding to your inquiries. They're both good guys. If they can help, I'm sure they will.

I've checked both John Bear and Mariah Bear, _Bears' Guide to Earning Degrees by Distance Learning_, 15th edition, and John Bear, Mariah Bear, Tom Head, and Tom Nixon, _Bears' Guide to the Best Education Degrees by Distance Learning_ and neither of them mentions an accredition agency that deals specifically with Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages. However, since most TESOL programs are house in the School of Education, the relevant professional accreditor would most likely be the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education. Hope this helps.

There is no national accreditation system for TESOL certification in the U.S. If you are planning on teaching in the public schools, there are some states that will certify you in TESOL, but that is a very different sort of thing.

If you are talking about short-term, non-university, courses, there is no one who monitors their activities. Most of the online programs are not worth much. The very few provide for some sort of teaching practicum. I think that it's safe to say that, if a school does not provide a significant practice component, it is not a good program.
