"Bears' Guide to the Best Education Degrees" has just been released by Ten Speed Press, which highlights over 100 accredited degree programs, and teacher certification programs, available to the distance learner. The cost is around $15.00, and can be ordered via www.Amazon.com .

Are you asking about a bachelors degree suitable for elementary or secondary teaching, or about the teacher's certification itself? Most people get a bachelors degree and then get the teaching credential through post-bachelors work.

For the former, there are any number of undergraduate distance learning programs that would probably work, and an almost infinite number of on-campus programs.

Especially in the case of single-subject (secondary) credentials, there are some pretty specific coursework requirements that you must meet. So you will have to check out what your particular state requires (I'm assuming you are in the US) and make sure you include all those classes in your program. So your first stop should probably be your state's education department and/or the education department of one of your local teachers' colleges. They can advise you on the process.

For the certification itself, I think that your distance education options are pretty limited at present. The problem is mostly the required student teaching. Kristen has posted the only fully distance education option that I know about. But some states operate programs on remote sites and stuff. Again, I'd contact the education department at a local college for advice.

Ummm, actually I just checked out Rio Salada (Is that the right name? I just closed the website, darn!) It's not totally distance learning. You have to do a face to face interview..

Perhaps my definition is kind of harsh...
