Southwestern College After Action Report #2

After action report number 2:

Okay so I enrolled in two (2) courses at once this time…which as you imagine was a bit tougher than the first time around, though it is manageable if you don’t screw around too much.

Both classes were similar in how they were presented ala’ Blackboard and both instructors were fairly involved.

First up is Adults in Transition, which is a type of psychology course. I actually learned a lot about MYSELF during this course, which was unexpected. The instructor was very involved, provided good feedback on all my work and generally participated in the discussions. There was a critical thinking paper or book review due every single week, plus answering the discussion board questions. This kept things hopping along. A lot of work later and a final T/F exam and I get an “A” for the class….I will tell you one thing, I certainly learned how to write a book review, which to this point I had never done before. Very challenging course.

Second up to bat is Problem Oriented Policing. Since I work in law enforcement I’ve always thought problem oriented policing is just another management catch phrase used to pile on higher expectations yet no raise in pay. This class has since changed my attitude. For the first 4 weeks I believed P.O.P. (problem oriented policing) was not a successful law enforcement model, after completing a short research paper, I have since changed my mind. This class was well done.

All in all I am really excited about my next 2 courses and will be taking 2 courses at a time for the duration of my education here. I also have researched the school some more and what a “Moundbuilder” really is. I really feel like I am learning a lot, the workload is no joke but I feel like I am part of something very special. I encourage any DETC accredited undergrad or any undergrad looking for a unique learning experience to give serious consideration to Southwestern. http://www.sckans.edu/online/
