    Hi All,

Does anyone have any firsthand experience with the accelerated online MBA program (Finance or International Business) over at LeTourneau University? A forum search only yielded 2 hits with single references to this school. What is their reputation like?

I know that it's an RA school @ 444/credit and has a 2.8 min undergrad gpa requirement for admission (which is what my gpa was over at Excelsior).

Any help would be appreciated!! Thanks in advance!!

I attended LeTourneau's engineering program many years ago. I later transfered out after percieving a change in my personal calling. I will say that I found them to have very high standards. I was a very hard-working student, almost studying all the time and I walked away from it with a high B average. I did get an A in Calculus II, though.

I'm sure you won't be disappointed with LeTourneau, unless they have changed. Because the practical engineering and technology background is the backbone of the school, it is very competitive in terms of getting people ready for workplace realities. Also, keep in mind that it is a non-denominational Christian institution. It attracts a lot of loyalty from its grads, especially in engineering with financial donations to build and expand the school.

    Hope this helps a little.

Well, considering the doings of a certain Seattle schoolteacher, I wouldn't want an education degree from LeTourneau. But their business program may be just fine.

I'm sure you are joking. She probably graduated from a state "Liberal" school... ;)

Is there a particular reason you like LeTourneau opposed to other MBA options?
I guess we could all use some more information as to why you like the program and what attracted you to it, and why you think it's the program for you. I mean I see nothing wrong with the program, but more information would lead to better advice!

Thanks for the input. I am not specifically stuck on LeTourneau, it just seem to me that it's one of a few RA schools that didn't have a strict 3.0 or higher gpa requirement for admission along with an open enrollment policy (GMAT optional). My gpa was a 2.75 and I thought that kind of limited my MBA options.

I am looking into RA DL options that offer accelerated MBA offerings. I will keep my options open and do some more searching. Any recommendations would be much appreciated!

    Thanks again!

My father graduated LeTourneau. His opinion of the school is very high as is many in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. The school enjoys a great reputation and - correct me if I am wrong - it was ranked in the top 10 of liberal colleges on USNWR. Your take on ranking is how you'll view that.

Plus, if you ever get to visit their main campus out in East Texas, it's rather cool. LeTourneau has always had a relationship with military folks and it has all but taken over a rather large, former military (Air Force?) base. It was quite a site.

I don't think you could go wrong with LeTourneau, but I do understand all the options out there. Good Luck!

Oh yeah - check out Amberton in Texas. RA accredited and cheap. They suffer more from a lack of reputation than a good or bad one. LeTourneau has a strong/good rep comparitively. However, Amberton is a solid school that has a cheap Master's program and liberal admissions policy. If you can live with an obscure univ that is in an office building off I-635, then give it a shot. I definently would for the cost alone and the relative obscurity would be quite beneficial.

Those of us in Washington State are sensitive to the name. It would not be a good thing to have on the resume given the notarity of LeTourneau the teacher.

The name is probably not a liability anywhere else.

I lived in Woodinville, Washington, from August 1986 to August 2001. So I remember it well.

A very good friend of mine received his MBA from LeTourneau and has nothing but great things to say about it.

Mary Kay Letourneau graduated from Seattle University in 1989. She began teaching 2nd grade that same year.

In the early to mid 80's (variously 84-85-86) she and Steve dropped out of Arizona State Univ Tempe and got married because she was pregnant. [poor reason to quit school IMHO]

She should have graduated from High School about 1980 (79-81) and so should have been well into her degree program at ASU.

Her father was a USMC veteran and alumnus of Marquette and CSU Long Beach. He was quite a conservative political figure.

One of her brothers is a US Navy veteran, USNA and Stanford (JD) grad.

Thanks for all the input. I did research a bit more with the recommended websites (us news, jonathan's, etc.) along with a few of the recommended schools. I've finally registered for the GMAT exam (Feb 06), so I will be spending the next 1.5 month prepping for that exam...I haven't taken anything close to this since the SAT's from over 20 years ago!

After careful review and given my limited options (gpa, cost, time, etc), I will be submitting applications for admission to the following schools:

    Morehead State University
    Texas A&M - Commerce
and on a stretch to University of Nebraska - Lincoln (which recommends a 3.0 gpa)

I've temporarily taken LeTourneau off my list for now because of the price, name recognition, and lack of AACSB.

Thanks again for everyone's input and as always any new input or recommendations are always welcomed on my end!!
