    Hi everyone,

Has anyone taken any of the following ECEs?

    Psychology of Adulthood and Aging
    Research Methods in Psychology
    Abnormal Psychology
    Gerontology
    Human Resources Management
    Labor Relations

If so, could you please list what study materials you used, if you passed the exam using those materials, how long you prepared for the exam and if you had any prior experience in the field of the subject of the exam or took the test based on textbook knowledge and independent study. I plan to start studying for these in February.

    Thanks to all who respond!!

    Abnormal Psychology

I took the Abnormal Psych ECE and got an A. I read the recommended textbook, started to fill out the study guide, but that felt like tedious busywork that wasnt helping me learn it anyway.

The sparknotes foldout would provide basic "memorize this" past reading the text.

It really didn't seem that hard.

  4. I took HR and Labor Relations and bought one of the recommended texts for each from half.com. I also did some googling on labor laws and HR practices. I scored an "A" on each - neither were very difficult in my estimation.

    Cheers,

I took Research Methods in Psychology and Labor Relations. I did not study for the Labor Relations but I studies my butt off for Reseach Methods and scored an "A" (I think).

Excelsior recommneds a text but I used an earlier edition from the same author as the recommended text.

    Hi,
I took Psychology of Adulthood and Aging and Gerontology. Scored an A on both. There's a ton of overlap between the two so if you're going to take them, take them both and take them one after the other. I used Adult Development & Aging (ISBN: 0072564881) for both as well as a PDF I found on ebay which, while good, wasn't necessary in addition to the book.

    Hi Mark:

I am looking at taking these exams within the next month or so. Do you remember which book you bought for each course? Please advise. I would really appreciate it. If possible, could you list the ISBN # for each text?

From some reviews I have read, it appears these tests are pretty easy. I am glad to see you thought so as well.

    Thanks once again,

    Abner :)

    Abnormal Psych ECE

    It's multiple choice.

I, too, took the Abnormal Psych ECE and got an A.
After a few halting starts on the recommended textbook, I concentrated on the textbook's fulsom study guide (a separate paperback book around 200 pages in length) in order to test terms and consolidate wider and earlier learning.

Start with whatever covers relevant exam topics. When you've done a chunk of that, mock-sit the sample exam. That will tell you if you're on course or need correction.

    Repeat until ready!

I had to look it up - it's been over a year...

For Labor Relations, "The Labor Relations Process", Holley, W.H., Jennings, K.M. & Wolters, R.S.

I'd get the 2000 rather than the 2004 version - half.com shows prices under $5. It's a worthwhile buy when you combine this book with Google.

For HR, "Human Resource Management", Fisher, C.D., Schoenfeldt, L.F. & Shaw, J.B.

On half.com the 1998 version goes for under $15. Not a bad buy, but you may be able to find similar books for less.

    Cheers,
    Mark

Thanks Mark, I will look into those books. I think that is all I will need. I am a union Job Steward, so I am guessing I already know all of this stuff. As far as HR management, I kind of have to now management procedures if I ever have to file grievances, etc.

Thanks once again, I really appreciate it.
