Hi everyone. I just wanted to tell you all that I passed my final CLEP today to apply toward my A.S. in Liberal Studies degree at Excelsior. I now have 61 credits that will apply toward my degree! The two tests I took today are

    CLEP Humanities- scored a 68
CLEP Analyzing and Interpreting Literature- 65

The materials I used are the CLEP official Study Guide, The Annotated Mona Lisa: A crash course in Art History, Barron's EZ-101 English Literature and Barron's EZ-101 American Literature.

Next up are the CLEP English Lit and CLEP American Lit exams and then onto the Excelsior College Exams. These, I am a little afraid of :)

    Congrats Rhonda!! :)

You are an inspiration to me. I am thinking of modeling an Associates after your course/test plan. I'm still toughing it out at National, but the 4 week course format is already burning me out. If I didn't have a newborn child at home, it would be easier. But of course, I wouldn't trade her for anything in the world! \

Ah well, I'll just slog through it. Next up is a Statistics course. Yippee!

    Anyway, rock on!

Hey Tom. Thanks for the words of encouragement! I can imagine those 4 week courses being brutal. I suppose that's why I like to study at my own pace and when I want! If you need any help about what classes or tests you could take from Excelsior, let me know. I'll be taking my first Excelsior College Exams in early April, so I will let you know how I do on those. I am also taking a Sociology course titled "Work and Occupations" through Excelsior for the Jan-April term. I'll let you know what I think about the course format and content. Good luck, I hope your class is still going well!

    Rhonda,

WOW again! Thanks for the breakdown! I'm a psychology major too, and am contemplating taking either CLEP Human Growth & Development or DANTES Lifespan Developmental Psychology (I presume they both cover "lifespan" rather than only Childhood?)
I noticed that was one of your credits; how much did you find you had to study to pass it? I have a used Developmental Psych. textbook and am considering Instacert for this over the semester break.

Also, have you given any thought to taking the DANTES Statistics, which COULD give you your pre-requisite Statistics for the Research Methods coursework all Psychology majors are required to take? At least if you took it you'd have a fair idea where you were with this - I'm not sure I want to take another semester of Math if I can test out of it!

Me again, with another CLEP question for you - Did you think the Educational Psychology exam content covered Psychology of Learning or was it more about "child education"? THANKS!

The Human Growth and Dev exam is considered duplicative of the Lifespan Dev Psych exam. Human Growth and development mainly focused on the period of infancy to young adulthood.
The Dev Psych textbook should be enough for the CLEP Human Growth and Dev. I used Barron's EZ-101 Study Keys, but I have also read a lot about psychology just for fun! The Educational Psychology exam mostly covered the psychology of learning. I spent about one intense week going through all of the major theories in the first few chapters in the other textbook I used titled "Educational Psychology: Theory and Practice" by Robert E. Slavin . This book covered Jean Piaget's and Lev Vygotsky's theories and a few other notable psychologists that you need to know for the exam. You should do fine! Good luck!
