Have you been wondering about the Tulane MBA certifications?

    http://www.tulaneu.com/certificates_management.asp

    At a glance:

1.) The courses are 8 weeks long.
2.) Students watch streaming video lectures then take a quiz at the end which is instantly graded.
3.) If the student fails the quiz, they may retake it as many times as necessary to pass as long as it is within the 8 week period.
    4.) 80% is a passing grade.
5.) There are no grades kept on file, everyone receives either a “pass” or “fail” rating.
6.) The coursework is considered graduate level.
7.) The professors are the exact same faculty who teach the MBA programs on campus.
8.) There will be a $1000.00 tuition increase for anyone enrolling after 1/1/2006.
9.) The courses are ACE evaluated for 3 undergraduate or 2 graduate credit hours.
10.) There are the MBA Essentials I and II and if you complete the third in either Management or Marketing you receive a “Master Certificate in Management or Marketing” or both if you take both.
11.) Each certificate consists of modules and it is highly recommended that you take them in sequential order as they build on one another.
12.) Tulane may or may not accept these certificates for course credit on campus. They have in the past; they discontinued to do so but may review their policy, so who knows?
13.) These certificates qualify for the Sallie Mae Career training loan but not federal aid.
    14.) They are 100% online.

I spoke with Judith on the phone at 1-800-983-6489 ext. 4180 who would be delighted to answer your questions.

As a note, these certificates do NOT replace an MBA nor were they intended to. Instead it would be healthy to think of them as a pre-MBA or even a supplement/refresher for established MBAs. The certificate is also good for adding business credentials to those of us poor slobs who majored in something other than business.

Remember that you do not have to have a B.S. to participate in the program but it is graduate level work.

You may list them as “Tulane University” on your transcript as they are facilitated, created and instructed by Tulane faculty and staff.

As you know from my mention of it in another thread, I, for one, was wondering just what the deal was with these odd-but-still-interesting-looking "MBA Certificates."

    Thanks for the legwork!

Their mini-MBA (which it really isn't) is just another Ivy-league cash-cow that uses its prestige to cash on ordinary students. Gotta love those not-for-profits.

I want to add that that was my opinion of Tulane's eMBA program before Katrina. I just wanted to make a point that not-for-profits share more with for-profits than people think and many are willing to admit.
I hope that Tulane gets back on its feet as well as the entire city of New Orleans.

I did the program, and I liked it. As an MBA primer for someone who did a social science undergrad, it was worth every penny.

Then you might want to list it under your name.

Which is one of the primary purposes for the program. Like I said, an MBA it isn't. A worthwhile venture it is.

Gregg...no problem. Personally if I had $5k I'd do it.

Thanks for all the info friendorfoe.

BTW - Do you think this program can be done concurrently while (I am) pursuing an MBA? I just wonder if it is an exhorbitant amount of work or not for pass/fail.

I looked at the sample video for marketing and I do like the video format.

Since it is a professional development program, rather than a degree, I leave it off.

I am currently enrolled in the program (In part due to your orientation. Thanks Robb.), and must concur with your conclusion. Also, as a business major it has help me bring my knowledge up to date.

I am not as classy as Robb, so I do. At least is not from a degree mill or a substandard school that will cause embarrassment.

According to the admissions advisor, several undergraduate students have completed this program while working towards their BS.
