I don't believe that they offer graduate level or any credit hours for these courses so the answer would be no. I think they're considered professional certificates. Similiar to the ones that Boston U. has at butrain.com

iquagmire is correct....I believe these are non-credit professional development courses. These could probably count as CEUs for some however I would bet that some colleges would give some credit for these courses. I don't believe they are graduate level courses though.

You gotta admit though..your resume would certainly look cool even with a certificate in "Milk and Cookies" from Cornell.:D

Not that I advocate paper tigers and not that these are blow-off courses. I think they are much like the Tulane MBA certs.

I'd like to see if my dept. will pay for one of these courses....particularly this one http://www.ecornell.com/catalog/certificates/ilrmdc1.jsp

    friendorfoe,

I am with you on that one. It seems to cover all the essentials and can be completed in 6 months per the enrollment advisor, enabling you to use the skills immediately instead of waiting two years or more for a Master's in leadership or management. I too want to see if my department will pay for it. If not I have serious thought about footing the bill myself.

I might see if my company will pay for it as a 'training' course, since I am already receiving reimbursement for two courses per semester through them :) Good luck to you both. The Certificate in Supervisory Studies looks very comphrehensive and immediately applicable!

Another question...Does anyone know how we will be assessed in these courses? Are there writing assignments, exams, problem sets? I'm fine with any of those methods, but I am just curious.

    Rhonda,

From an email I received about the supervisory skills program it states:

Cornell University & eCornell went to great lengths to create a patent-pending approach to problem based learning which means that you will build knowledge and skills using online case studies, interactive exercises and simulations based on authentic, relevant and real world situations. In our courses you will learn in a hands on setting so you will be able to apply what you have learned in the courses immediately in the work place. In many ways eCornell's online courses are quite similar to traditional classes or workshops conducted in person; there is a syllabus (we call it a course map), material is presented and discussed, you can ask questions and there are quizzes and assignments to be completed. You will read or listen to explanatory content, use many interactive exercises, practice new skills and discuss issues. The best part is the coursework is available to be completed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week on an asynchronous platform so you do not have to be online at the same time as the instructor or other students in order to complete the coursework. On top of everything, our faculty and curriculum will not only provide you with world class training but you will also be able to add a very impressive credential to your resume, an Ivy League credential!
