I am starting to study for clep exams. Is it worth subscribing to instacert? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.
Yes, but on certain exams, you'll need more Instacert is certainly worth the money. There are certain exams, where I felt it was grossly inadequate, such as Business Finance. On most exams, they do a great job preparing a student to pass the exam. One thing I would recommend, is to really read the Instacert answers provided in the explanation portion of their questions. When I took my Cleps, I didn't see many of the same questions on Instacert, but i saw a ton of the actual CLEP questions in the explantion portion. You also might want to do a search here at DI for additional study tips on specific exams, and check out www.degreeforum.com ; as they have a great forum on cleps and dantes. Good luck
Hi dean7777, I joined Instantcert in October, shortly before taking my first CLEP and DANTES exams. Since then I have passed 31 credits worth of exams and will be taking 15 more credits in the next couple of weeks. I have found Instantcert to be very useful in preparing for most exams and I fully intend to renew my semi-annual subscription when it expires in a few months. For most subjects (but not all), if you were to study an REA or COMEX book in conjunction with reviewing the information you learn using Instantcert then you will usually be in a good place to pass your exams. Some people even go as far as to say that studying Instantcert alone is enough to pass their exams. However, I personally like to have at least a couple of different sources when preparing for an exam. I would suggest you sign-up for one month to see if it suits your style of learning. I think it is well worth the money for most of the exams. They have a lot of good information on there, and depending on how good you are at cramming, it only takes you a day or two to prepare for a test. I would highly recommend it.
Re: Re: instacert I agree - unless it's a very simple exam (say, Here's To Your Health) I'd rely on multiple sources. The COMEX books are great...I only wish there were more of them! Cheers, Mark
I studied everything-- but if I slacked a little, it was in the "performing arts" section. As I recall, aside from the obvious structures (parthenon, pantheon, the birdhouse, types of columns, etc.) I wasn't asked very many architecture questions.
CLEP Humanities As has been mentioned many times here, know your Shakespeare and other English writers. Be able to recognize art and sculptures in the same manner as the CLEP sample test. This test is very broad, so take your time studying and review for it frequently unless you have had some previous interaction with the material. I found Comex to be a very helpful primary study resource and Instacert only a secondary guide. Since there is so much recall involved, you could always take a chance and cram.
For Western Civ i used the instacert question as a baseline of what to review...this test a alot bigger, so i may have to modify my game plan.
None; not even close. Granted, I have felt underprepared at times when it came time to hit the 'report score' button, but I have passed all with either a pass or an A by using a combination of instacert and the official CLEP sample exams. Same strategy for DSST. Still, it never hurts to put a little extra effort in by using Comex, REA, Princeton Review, Google searches, or a combination to complement your study. Or allow yourself plenty of lead-time so that you can re-take if you fail.
Im 3 for 3 so far(Western Civ, Humanities, and Computer Applications). I have 2 DSST test next week that Instacert had no prep for so that will give me an idea. Alot of it may be mental, but I have had to study alot for these two test. Im using instacerts question pool to determine what LA classes Im going to take (need 16), Looks like American Govt ,into to soc, and Western Civ 2 (already too 1). Ill let yall know how everything goes.

Study guides I heard that the rea guide for human growth and development was no good, and what is comex? I resigned up instantcert today, I used instantcert last year for US history 1 and I passed, I had also used the sample questions from collegeboard, some thos questions were on the actual clep exam word for for word.
You may want to supplement the servcie with a visit to the local library. Once you finish the instacert, go there and gander through a textbook on the topic. Read the contents, and flip through the pages to get a good feel for how the info is presented. Its a good way to wrap your knowledge into a usable and referencable chunk of your gray matter.
