I'm evaluating two MBA universities. They are Indiana Wesleyan University and Indiana Institute of Technology.

Indiana Wesleyan is a Tier 3 school with only a regional accreditation. Tuition $400/credit hour

Indiana Institute of Technology is unranked. It has a regional accreditation and a speciality accreditation known as International Assembly of Collegiate Business Education (IACBE).
    Tuition $330/credit hour

    Which one would you choose?

Indiana Wesleyan sounds more prestigous, but IIT sounds more hands-on. I don't think either the Tier-III status or IACBE accreditation should enter into the decision making process as IW is not Tier-I or II and IIT does not have AACSB accreditation. I would choose the school with the program you like the best and whose learning format fits you. I'm sure I'll get flamed for this!

I would go with Indiana Institute of Technology due to the additional accreditiation if the program meets your needs.

That means we are tied, one vote for each.

I’ve heard that IWU is an excellent school from several people whose opinion I trust. IIT is not an institution that I’ve ever heard a comment about. Living in Indiana yourself, I’d assume that you’d be far more familiar with their (respective) local reputations than I.

Going by cost, accreditation, and ranking, there seems no clear major distinction (IMO).

I’d say (with what little I know about either institution) that it seems a toss-up. If I were in your shoes, I’d investigate the structure, focus, and various benefits of each program. Then look into faculty reputation, and request feedback from graduates before making the leap.

    Thank You Intro2life.

I have personally interviewed many people who say that Indiana Wesleyan is viewed in a positive light.

I struggle with the question does reputation trump accreditation?

It's like choosing between M&Ms and Reeses Pieces.

Have a look at my "11 Vital Factors in choosing an MBA" here. Many people have found it helpful in making this choice.

Not for me, M&M's hands down!

Apparently the only difference in accreditation is that IIT has IACBE accreditation for its MBA program. Is this important? Probably not, for two reasons.

First, as far as I know, there is no situation where a professionally-accredited MBA degree is legally necessary or preferred. It's not like engineering (where an ABET degree is important) or law (where an ABA degree is important).

Second, IACBE has relatively little prestige as a professional accreditation goes, because IACBE is not a CHEA- or DoE-recognized accrediting organization. If you value an accredited MBA, then you would be better off with accreditation from AACSB or ACBSP, which do have CHEA recognition.

While I know little about these two schools in question, my impression is that Indiana Wesleyan has a distinct religious focus, and that IIT has a distinct technical/engineering focus. Depending on your personality and your future plans, one of these may be a better fit than the other.

    Indiana Wesleyan University.

Also think about the distance MBA from Ball State.

  14. Have you considered IU at all?

    I'm considering IUSB.

I'm not convinced of the quality that the satellite campus offers.

It appears that the IUSB road is riddled with problems. I have found the staff to require high standards with low pedagogy practices.

The IU satellite campuses are not as good as the main Bloomington Campus.

They also require an exit exam that I feel could place a student in a bad situation if the staff does not uphold their teaching responsibilties.

I had an instructor at IUSB that could barely speak english. He had exams that involved a single question. If you did not answer the question perfectly then it was considered an "F." I don't like putting all my eggs into one basket.

IUSB does have the correct accreditation.

Wow! Ball State does have a online program. Thanks for pointing that out.

Ball State looks very, very good thank you!

  18. Sounds like they need to get their act together.

Luckily I haven't run into any of your scenarios (yet). I'm currently in the Kelley Direct program, which I'm happy with so far. The administration is based out of IUPUI but most of the profs come from IU Bloomington which is what really counts.

    Cheers,

Gosh, Jimmy! I thought it was George Bush voting for the M & M's.

Ha! Don't know what Bush likes. Reagan liked jelly beans and Carter liked peanuts. I don't care for either!

My favorite is the chocolate Charleston Chew or the pure Hershey's chocolate bar or a Chunky!
