More than 150 years ago, after wondering what kind of education he actually paid for, Henry David Thoreau (Harvard class of 1837) said about his alma mater: Tuition is an important item in the term bill, while the far more valuable education which one gets is from associating with the most cultivated of his contemporaries, for which no charge is made.
You are paying for a piece of paper which certifies that you are good enough, you are smart enough, and gosh darn it people like you!
Re: Re: What am I paying for??? That's a great quote. It's funny because I don't think I'm mentally built to learn best through formal classes. I learn best by working with those that have more knowledge than I do and picking their brains every chance I get! I also find this method more enjoyable...for me at least! Rhonda
