I've recently been accepted into the EdD program in Instructional Technology and Distance Education at Nova Southeastern University. I've been thinking about this for quite some time now; in fact, I feel as though I've won first prize in some absurd contest to see who can agonize the longest over where he's going to graduate school. Many of you have helped me make my (eventual) decision with your comments about various schools, and I appreciate your taking the time to share your thoughts.

In any case, has anyone on the board ever been through this program, or have any specific knowledge of it? I'd really love to hear your experience. Thanks!

Congratulations Michael! I'm sure that you know more about the program than I do so I can't help you there. However, best of luck in your studies. Let us know how it's going.

One of my close friends and collaborators just returned from his orientation session for this program.

He is very excited about it and impressed with the level of organization and student support.

If you are interested in learning more, I'm sure that I could put you in touch with him.

I am not in that program specifically but I am in their Ed.D. program for Organizational Leadership. I am done with all coursework and in the middle of my dissertation. It has been a solid program with proper faculty and staff support. I feel as though their program is well organized and they truly want students to succeed and graduate.

    Congratulations!

I myself am a Nova alumnus. You made a fine decision. In one county here in NJ (Monmouth County), about 25% of all School Superintendents are Nova EdDs. My PhD is in Computer Information Systems. My PhD has served me well.

    Michael,

A colleague of mine is a recent graduate from the NSU ITDE program and his degree has served him very well. You will want to seek out Dr. Michael Simonsen, who is a well known and very influential leader in distance learning (he edits two of major distance education journals in the field).

You will also want to become active in the Association for Educational Communications and Technology (www.aect.org) and other professional associations in the field. Since I was recently elected President of AECT's Division of Distance Learning, I would be happy to help.

Congradulations on your choice. I'm sure that you will find it quite rigorious, from what I have heard.

Congratulations to Michael Wilson for being accepted at NSU. I have been on their campus in Davie a lot lately and really like the school.

A big congratulations to Anthony Pina for being elected President of AECT's Division of Distance Learning. I for one appreciate your insights into the world of DL.

Thank you for your kind words. I belong to several professional associations, but AECT is my "home" association and includes the leaders in my field of instructional technology (including the people who write nearly all of the university textbooks on the subject). The Divison of Distance Learning is the second largest of the AECT Divisions. It was an honor to be elected by my peers and also to be recognized by my friends and colleagues on Degreeinfo.
