I am just wondering if anyone knows if the CLEP Official Study Guide is worth getting. I'm thinking of taking some CLEP exams in some areas that I have knowledge in and would certainly appreciate the use of a good study guide if will help improve my scores. Thank you.
Hi It covers the general CLEP tests pretty extensively but has very little on the other tests. Good luck.
You can find 3 reviews of the CLEP 2004 text here. You can get it 2nd hand for $3. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/customer-reviews/0874477026/ref=cm_cr_dp_pt/102-1899000-0904149?%5Fencoding=UTF8&n=283155&s=books
If you only get one book, make sure this is it! This has the most accurate sample tests -- with some of the questions appearing word-for-word on the actual tests -- and is the best indicator for what the real exam will be like. You can use its content outlines to search Google, WikiPedia, your local library, etc. If you're getting at least 50% of the sample questions right, you are ready to sit the CLEP. For a little extra assurance be sure to check out Instacert.com. Good luck!
3$bill What bad reviews! I also found official CLEP guide had the best test samples. A bit frustrating they had no answer explanations though.
The negativity seems to be primarily towards the fact that the CD is not a full test CD with questions but just a way to experience the CLEP software. This is the only book to my knowledge that covers all of the CLEP Exams, making it a required text for anyone taking more than one or two exams. Cracking the CLEP is a better book but only covers the general exams. Cheers, Mark
As I said in my thread on Amazon reviews, sometimes a negative review can be a recommendation, depending on its grounds.
I concur. I was as surprised as everyone else when, after having already downloaded the sample from Collegeboard, found that the CD in the book was the same thing and just as useless. This would be an easy upsell for them - offer sample tests using the official interface with scoring similar to a real CLEP for say $5-$10 per sample test. They'd make a killing. Cheers, Mark
